Recently we had a little conversation in a thread about using Plasti Dip to "paint" various parts. I thought I would start a thread to discuss it in more detail.

Before I get into information from others I thought I would share my experience with some emblems on my son's FJ Cruiser.

This photo doesn't really highlight the emblems but it's the best photo I have of the before. The before color was chrome

After photos, black emblems.

The beauty of using Plasti Dip is the easy removal if it is not done right or you don't like the way it looks.

The ease of removal really paid off when we attempted the front bumper wings. We had make a mistake and were able to just peel it off and return to the original coating/

This is just the intro, I'll follow up with more information shortly.

For a smooth shinny look, hold the can or sprayer 6 to 8 inches from the part being dipped. The instructions listed on the can say to hold it 12 to 16 inches away from the surface. The instructions on the can will give you a more textured look. I haven't held the can that far away so I can't say from experience that this is the case but others are reporting a textured look following the supplied instructions.

It's called Plasti Dip yet you can buy it in a spray can?

I always though it was for dipping tools such as on the handles of a pair of pliars?

Correct on both comments, they offer it in a spray version but did not change the name. The spray version has been available for a couple or five years. Some one experimented with the spray version and realized there was more uses it could apply to. Plasti Dip realized they had a new market and got on the band wagon to produce additional colors and make the spray cans more accessible.
