This summer, I plan to to do one of my bucket list rides. I plan to ride from Orlando, FL to Seattle, WA and back. Though I have a route roughed in, it is certainly not set in stone. I will take about a month to make the ride and it will be approximately 8000 miles. I will ride the Tiger XC.

I plan to visit Mae Lyne's daughter in Milton (Pensacola area), FL, my son in Leesville (Ft Polk), LA, Mae Lyne's daughter in Benton (Little Rock area), AR, my daughter in Centennial, CO and my daughter in Redmond, WA. My son-in-law is planning to ride with me on the Denver to Seattle leg. I also plan to visit Adrian in Alabama.

I really have no time frame - a benefit of being retired. :y2: I may possibly ride part way with Mart on his return trip. If I see a road I want to explore, paved or unpaved, I will explore it - the benefit of having a Tiger XC.

I hope to meet Dilligaf on this trip. My problem is that I will have to stay out of Kommiefornia as I will be carrying.

Other than sponging off of my kids at various stops, I plan to camp, weather permitting. I am really looking forward to this trip. Any input or suggestions will be welcomed.

I am really looking forward to this trip. Any input or suggestions will be welcomed. It has been years since I have ridden in the Western US.

You can carry as long as it is unloaded and locked.

Gary, I will echo Dave's question. Does locked mean in a locked case or will a trigger lock suffice? I know CA does not recognize my CW permit. I can do that. I can unload it, lock it, and stow it in my luggage.

Man Carl that sounds like a wonderful ride. Lookin forward to seeing you.
Anything I can do, just let me know.

Thanks, Adrian. But I hope I will see you before that.

The oregon coast is a must IMO if in the NW USA.
Have you seen Yellowstone park? I really want to ride it, so am on the way there or back myself.

What kind of idiot starts a thread asking for route tips anyways? :)

The Oregon coast is indeed beautiful as is the Olympic Peninsula. I have ridden around the peninsula. I, too, wish to ride through Yellowstone; I have never been there at all.

Well, you know, some of us idiots just can't help themselves. :y2: :y2:

Gary how do you mean locked?

Here in Kalifornia to carry a gun in your luggage it must be unloaded (no clip or rounds in it) and be locked in a compartment (trunk, saddlebag) and not be in reach of the driver.

"California Penal Code section 12025 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not lawfully prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person provided the firearm is unloaded and stored in a locked container.

The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code Section 12026.1."

That being said I chose to carry in my jacket, loaded and ready. It's called the Second Amendment!!!!
I had an officer ask if I would empty my pockets during a traffic stop, I said no Sir not unless I am under arrest, got a warning for being a bit fast and off I went.

There must be "reasonable suspicion" or you must be under arrest for law enforcement to search your person or belongings. If I would have said no and was forced to empty my pockets and he found the weapon I would have been arrested for illegal possession of a firearm. Odds are a lawyer would get the case dismissed based on the officer illegally searching me.

If you have never been to Yellowstone and are ANYWHERE near it GO. I (regretably) was not on a bike, did get to spend a week with the ex and my Son tooling around Yellowstone, Montana and Wyoming one summer and it was an AMAZING trip.
If you can get a reservation Carl, stay in the Old Faithful Inn. On the national registery of historic places, words do not describe.....that place is totally freakin awesome!!!!! heres a link.....

And if you "google" images......you'll see what I mean. Sitting in the great halll of the Inn sipping coffee......wonderful. And the restaraunt is 5 star. The architecture of the place can keep you busy just gazing at it for hours. Oh and theres that geiser thing out front to. :y2:

Thanks, Gary; I can deal with that. My hard bags lock.

I definitely want to visit Yellowstone and spend time in that area of the country. That may have to wait for another trip.

I could spend a week (or more) just IN Yellowstone. Amazing place. Might even look into employment there one day. I had a friend and his wife who lived in the camp ground at Yellowstone in the summer and worked one of the gift shops, then in the winter they traveled down to Key West and worked at the Commissary on the Navy base, and back to Yellowstone in the Summer....wash rinse repeat........not a bad life.
Jackson Hole Wyoming is very cool to see.
So many things out that way to do and see its hard to pinpoint.

Carl,

When you get to Redmond let me know. I'll take you on a ride out on West Snoqualmie valley road and then maybe hit a local brewery for a beer on me.

Look forward to the possibility of meeting up with you.

Tim

Thank you, Tim; I will do that. I look forward to meeting you. It is looking like I will leave Orlando in early July. I will start a thread in Road Trips & Ride Outs and update that thread from time to time with my progress. If I remember my camera, I will even post a pic or two. :y2:
