I've posted this before, but it's been a while so bear with me.
On Remembrance Day (Veterans Day) I think of the sacrifices made by courageous men and women of many nations and give thanks for the freedom we now all enjoy.
It's on this day, and other times throughout the year, that I think about my visit to The City of Lights, Paris, France.
We had just gone up the Eiffel Tower for a wonderful view of the city and then walked along the gardens and fountains to the Paris Exposition Center for a view back to the Tower.
This is a view of the center called Palais de Chaillot. You can see many people standing on what I will call the balcony. The whole place is an amazing structure.

The view back over the gardens, fountains and to the Eiffel Tower itself was wonderful.
As I was enjoying the peaceful scene it struck me that I was standing on a historic spot and this was the exact same spot in a photo I have of where Hitler and his henchmen stood after the fall of Paris in 1940.
This is the still shot of that event, but there is film shown in documentaries of Hitler grinning, strutting around and showing great joy at his conquest of the city.

Realizing where I was standing gave me some shivers and I explained the significance of this place to my family, but they really weren't all that interested.
But for me it will be an experience I will always remember.
Lest we forget.
