After being hit by a dump truck when I was 28 my wife said if you get another bike you get a divorce. After I sold my plane last year she relented, so after 38 years I renewed my license and found a nice Triumph Speedmaster which I am getting used to riding. As a teenager in South Africa, I had a rice burner, but the ultimate bike was a Triumph Bonneville. How I longed for one of those, so when I found the used Speedmaster close to me I snapped it up. It is much heavier than the Honda CB 400 I used to have, but riding is fun, particularly as I have taken up gliding and use the bike to get to the airport! I look forward to doing some group riding, I just have to find the local Triumph or British bike owners in the Winchester VA area.

:five: Welcome, from Northern California. When I was learning to soar, I had a lesson from a young lady, of a similar age to me, from South Africa, in Minden Nevada. Her father was a "pro" (competitive) glider pilot, and she was getting her hours to get a commercial pilot's license. In my pilot's logbook, she only used her first name, Sue.

As I already have multiple commercial licenses, I will be trying to add a commercial glider license, though how I could conceivably use it I have no idea!

Gliding is a great skill to have...you'll have slightly better survivability if your powered craft conks out. The commercial license is good for teaching and running a glider ops. I used to work as ground crew for a friend that did competitions, and tried to set records, like furthest out-and-back flight for a motorglider flying as a standard glider (without using engine except for take-off). I miss it. When I retire soon, I will try to get my glider license. It is much more costly now than in the mid '80's.
