Oil Pressure?

Hello bikers,

I need advice!
I think I have an oil pressure problem. I recently changed the oil with the correct amount (as it was very cold here I used a thinner 20/40 oil) but noticed a few days later that the oil level in the frame had risen right up to the filler cap. So I drained some off and found it had risen again after riding it the next day. I checked to see if it had dropped by the next morning but it hadn't. The pump appears to work fine as there is a steady stream coming out of the pillar just inside the filler cap. I have also noticed a small amount of oil (and some water) coming out of the oil beather pipe that runs along the back mudguard. I've only been using it on short journeys as I need to get this sorted before going far.
Any advice gratefully received.
Hoping you are all well and warm.

You must have had residual oil in the engine when you filled the reservoir. When the engine started, the residual oil was pumped back to the tank, over-filling it.

You need to take it out and run it for AT LEAST a half hour at running temperature to heat-soak the engine and boil off any residual condensation immediately before changing oil.

I ALWAYS remove the engine sump plug in order to inspect the screen for debris and possible metallic particles. THAT'S WHY IT'S THERE.

Thanks Grandpaul,
I did run the bike for over an hour before changing the oil. Also I removed the sump and cleaned the oil filter - there was very little debris on it.
Could the oil in the primary chain case have anything to do with it?

OK. So if I drain the main oil tank and the primary chain case oil then replace it with 4.5 pints into the frame that should be right. Or is it 4.5 pints into the main tank and a further half pint into the chain case?
Oh the mysteries of an old bike!
