Someone told me that a car oil pressure meter (the same type used on cars and sold at auto parts stores) will connect (screw in) to the connector on the timing cover where the oil pressure light switch now screws into. If you have made this switch how much better is it tahn the light that is now used?

From what I have read I seems to recall that the meter give a more accurate reading and you would be warned longer before hand that you have a pressure problem then the normal light would.

The down side is you can become paranoid watching the small variations on the gauge, then start down the road of oil coolers and get into never ending oil threads. These bikes once set up properly are capable of running in just about any condition as long as they actually have oil in them. Forget it and ride for fun with both eyes on the road.

I agree with Otherwise. Plus, the oil pressure switch is pretty foolproof at letting you know the INSTANT oil pressure drops. Your oil lamp comes on the moment you turn off the motor quite reliably doesn't it?

That said, yes, you can mount an oil pressure gauge once you remove the entire oil pressure switch. You'll need one that works hydraulically and not one that works electrically ......connected to the existing oil pressure switch.

Thanks. Good suggestion. I will definately do that. Much cheaper than buying a new one. It is the original switch but hopefully the cleaning will make it work.
