Ohlins Nix cartridge review:
I have 2012 Scrambler. I initially added rear Ikon dial-a-ride shocks with springs for my weight and progressive front fork springs. I did these changes 1 at a time. Rear shock made a huge difference giving a more compliant but controlled ride. Front spring was less so. It gave less brake dive, but felt a bit bouncy at high speed and still pretty harsh over the terribly paved bay area roads. I know I could have played with oil weight and I was going to ad emulators but then saw a close out deal on the Ohlins Nix22 Cartridges through AJ Cycles in NY. I pulled the trigger and decided to have them installed and setup and a suspension shop here in the Bay Area CA, called Catalyst Suspension. First off I so glad I decided to go to a suspension specialist. They set it up perfectly out of the box. Set the sag while I was there, and gave me a good lesson in compression and rebound settings as well as tire pressures. I did a shake down ride to Big Sur through the Santa Cruz mountains and then out to highway 1. Probably logged about 300 miles of mixed twisties, freeway and faster sweeping highway. The bike was really transformed. It feels firmer but super controlled and confidence inspiring. Brake dive is so little I hardly notice. They also bumped my rear Ikon shock up to 3 where I had been riding it at 2. And that helped a bit as well. Still no sport bike or anything, but I'm no sport bike rider, so for me these fit the bill perfectly. I would likely dial out the compression a bit for any dirt roads or crazy bumpy surfaces, but that is simply a hex key adjustment on the left fork adjuster now. Overall I'm super super happy with these. At this point the rider needs more upgrades before the bike gets anymore.
And for any Bay Area people I can't recommend Catalyst enough. Small husband and wife shop that only do motorcycle suspensions. So easy to work with. Great communication, reasonable prices and they know what they are doing.
