We just attended the funeral of a very dear friend (over 40 years); her husband was a decorated Jolly Green pilot in VietNam. He was going through the usual emotions after losing his wife of almost 60 years, but he had the fortitude to compose himself and tell us how very proud he was to hear of our son's next assignment to MedEvac chopper school. He referred to him as a "dust off" pilot, which some of you mentioned in the other thread.
Anyway, I was honored to be allowed to say a few words at Jan's memorial service; I thought about what I would say for several days leading up to the 1,600 mile round-trip, but when I stepped up there, my mind went blank. It only took a quick glance out at Stuart, and down at the coffin to get the words going.
The most significant thing I related, was that in all the time we've known Stuart and Jan, we NEVER had a cross word. Not even a raised voice or a disagreement. We couldn't be more alike in our thinking, personalities, and everyday lives.
I have sensed that same spirit on this forum, and I'm very pleased to be a part of it.
Make the time to visit friends if you can, pick up the phone, send a letter or e-mail. Keep in touch with your lives while you've still got 'em.
