Hi everyone, hope you can help. I've recently bought an 865 EFI America, runs lovely only one problem was the aftermarket exhausts the previous owner had on. So, I've messed about with different exhausts and now it won't play, revving at idle 1500 revs spiking all over the place whilst riding. I've reset adaptation on ECU. Is it worth doing 12 minute tune and how do you do that on the America without a fan to kick in?

Thanks in advance

Hi Mole, what exhaust have you currently on the bike? Are the O2 sensors still installed? ( it’s common for people to remove these, have done so myself) is the air injection system still hooked up? ( again it’s common for these to be removed to reduce backfiring while throttling down)
have you checked the air filter? 1500 revs at idle is a bit high, there is an adjustment knob to lower this. As far as the 12 min tune, it should be fairly cool in your part of the world at the moment, but if you are concerned you could always place a fan so it blows on the motor. I had aftermarket exhaust pipes on my 2015 America when I purchased it, changed back to standard pipes without any issue. I’m sure someone on the forum with more mechanical skill than myself will have some ideas.

Hi Philois, thanks for your reply...
I have removed the AIS but I'm not sure about O2 sensors, presume they a mechanical part? The condition has definitely worsened since I've removed the AIS - I guess less air is going in now and it's mapped for more. I think I have a custom map on the bike 20184 if anyone has any experience of them. I have TORS on the bike at the moment but I've punched out the end of baffles slightly at the end of the pipes (not the engine end) to allow more air flow to change the sound. I have looked at the air filter, it seems fairly clean so not sure how to tell how clogged it might be other than looking at it?

When it's running right it's a great ride...

The lack of AIS shouldn’t effect it, the air is injected just behind the exhaust valve and to the best of my knowledge is only there to help burn unburnt fuel. The O2 sensors connection plug is just under the front of the tank, you could simply unplug it and take it for a spin to see if it makes any difference. Most find it helps ease a a snatchy throttle. You will get an engine warning light on the dash. If it does help you will need to purchase a O2 eliminator kit which are readily available. If not you just have to plug it back in. All that said you may not need to do any of the above but it’s worth a try as it’s easy to do. It’s funny that some people don’t have any issues at all. I have no experience with the tunes so will leave that for someone else to comment on. Hope you get it sorted easily, they are great bikes. There is a ton of info on here about them if you do a few searches.

Great, I'll probably unplug the O2 sensor and go for a spin - the EML light is on anyway (open circuit fault) after taking the AIS off. I fitted the part in the AIS kit to solve this but it doesn't seem to have worked anyway. Thanks for all your help!

Love your avatar btw..

Open circuit is probably o2s unplugged under tank.if you reset adaption 12 minute tune is done.remap to suit different exhaust.no need to buy eliminator turn it off with tunecu.sync the throttle bodies and check voltage at throttle position sensor
