After a fair bit of research I have ordered a set Avon Spirit ST tyres for the Street Twin. The original Pirrelli tyres are not to my taste, especially in the wet so I am hoping the Avons will do the trick. Plus, I like the idea of British tyres on a British bike.

Once fitted I'll let you know what I think.

I put Avon Storms, similar tire, on my Bonneville. Major improvement. I know new tires will be an improvement over the old ones but these were way beyond that. The original tires on my Moto Guzzi, Pirelli Sport Demons, are also terrible. I only run this bike around town for the most part so I will wear them out. I think if bike makers would put better tires it would be to their benefit. Even if new riders don't know the difference the word gets out and buyers would be figuring the cost of new tires when considering a new bike.

Mate totally agree. I would happily an extra two or three hundred pounds for decent tyres on the price of a new bike.

The Metzler Tourance Nexts that came on my 1200 Explorer were junk. 90/10 Tire for the road. Didn't last 6K kms and the front wore unevenly. All over other forums and the interweb about how bad they were on the big Tigers. Triumph still put them on the new ones for quite a while. Not sure if they still do. Put a 50/50 Dunlop Trailmax Mission on and have over 10 K kms on them so far and still lots of life left in them. You give up a bit of road performance, but nothing I ever found bad. Great tire. I am sure there are better choices that Triumph could be using for their bikes.

I have noticed recently the smaller Tigers now come with the excellent Michelin Road series tyres. Perhaps Triumph are starting to listen.
I've always been lucky in that I can ride around and ignore most minor quirks that most bikes have, but tyres isn't one of them.

The stock Pirelli on my T120 barely made 5,000 miles. I had to cut a trip short this past summer because it wore so quickly at the end of it's life. I guess Pirelli makes good tires but the tires on both my Moto Guzzi and Triumph we're junk.

Motorcycles aren't mean to invest once and enjoy throughout the lifetime but actually you have to maintain it time and again, motorcycle tires must be accurate because your riding depends upon them after your skills.
