Hey guys I just purchased my first Triumph, a '78 Bonneville T140V, and it needs a lot of work. Right off the back I am confronted with the obvious question of where to get parts. Any good dealers you can recommend for standard maintenance parts to begin with? (ie, tires, oil filter, brake pads, ect...)

There are a few of us here with T140s....welcome aboard!

I replaced my tires recently and found the best prices on eBay. Personally, I'd go with the stock Dunlops. You might want to be sure the tubes are good as well.

You don't actually have an oil filter that you change, but there is a gauze filter/strainer that you can clean in kerosine and use again. You'll probably also want to drain and replace the gearbox lube.

As far as parts and such, look at Northern Eagle Cycle. He specializes in nothing but the "oil in frame" Triumphs and his prices are reasonable with quick shipping.

If you've got questions.....just speak up!

You are welcome and I am sure GrandPaul will add to the list. By the way, he has parts also. You can ask him if you are looking for something specific; he may have it or know where to get it.

There are quite a few reliable dealers in North America, but I have also shopped in Canada, the USA, England, New Zealand and Australia through the magic of the internet. You would be amazed at the sources that are out there.

If you are looking for parts other than tires the are several British bike sites. Just put Triumph Motorcycle in a search engine and many will appear. Personally I used 3 for most of my parts. Countryside Cycles in Tallahassee, FL (the site is no longer up but he is still in business), Moore's Cycle Center in Anaheim, CA, and Walridge Motors in Ontario, Canada.

jpread, were you ever able to locate everything that you need? If you have some specific parts please list them because members on here may have some of these parts lying around and might be willing to part with them at a good price.

Thanks guys, I have found a lot of these sites very helpful. Work on the bike is going...

So I have my first technical question... What are some best practices when changing out the handlebars? I picked up a set of clubman handlebars and am curious what you guys do with the brake reservoir. If you can think of any other things you would think helpful about cables or wires or really anything please don't hesitate or link a previous thread. I look forward to any good TTPs

I had clubman on my Bonnie way back then but I cannot remember having to do anything special to accommodate them, but that was a long time back so the details may escape me now. Be sure to post lots of photo for us to follow the progress BBEER
