Hello all: My son-in-law is in need of new tires for his Thunderbird LT. Just looking for some opinions and experiences from you folks. He's thinking in terms of tire life and of the Metzler ME888 or Avon Cobras, but............

Thanks in advance: Jim

Jim, I had the older version of the Metzler(ME 880) on my Honda VTX 1300 and liked them. Cannot tell you about tire life because I sold it before I could get an idea how long they would have lasted.
I really like the AVON Cobras on my T'bird and about 80-90% sure I will put them back on come replacement time. Have just over 10K kms on mine so far and the front tire is still good for another5-6K kms easily and the back will need to be replaced sometime this summer or in about 2-3K kms based on current wear.
The Cobras are radial tires and give a great ride and handling IMHO.
Just read that the Metzlers are radial construction too, so should be good for the T'bird LT as the Cobras are radials as well.
I imagine like a car it is bad to mix the two types(bias ply and radial).

Not seeing too many positive reviews for these tires in wet conditions. Also found that maybe only certain sizes are radial construction, so some further research may be needed.
i was thinking about these as well as a possible replacement for the Avon Cobras on the T'bird when due, but will check out other brands now.
My 2 cents worth.

Actually, Dave, he went with the Bridgestone Exceda Max; they come in radial and the correct sizes. I have used Bridgestone, mainly on my '02 Trophy, and was happy with them. Time will tell, I guess.
Thanks for the info: Jim

Hi, just replaced rear tire 82 hunderd mile just at wear mark with a Avon. I live in East TN. lots of rain and junk on curvy roads I like this tire.
