HI, I'm an old but new rider. I haven't ridden a motorbike in over 40 years. So I think the time is right for me to straddle a tank again before I loose my direction and end up in my garage before even starting my journey. I'm 73, but think I'm 23. Back in the day I took my driving test on a Lamberetta 125 LD. Had a Honda 50 Sport!!. Followed by a Honda 125 Benly Super Sport (Loved it). Joined the Army and had to sell it. Some years later while still in the Army I bought a Triumph Bonneville (About 1972). I took it to Berlin for 2 years and then had it back in Uk for a year. This was probably the only Triumph Bonneville in Berlin at the time. And very expensive to insure, so I could only afford to insure it for, four month of a year in four separate months around my leave time. It worked out, a week in Berlin, two weeks at home in the UK followed by a week back in Berlin. It was not the best long distance touring Bike but only let me down once on the way back to Berlin. Anyone who has served in Berlin will know that missing your time slot on the corridor has severe problems. (not the same nowdays).
So here I am 40+ years later and just took delivery of a Triumph Bonneville America 2014 with 3,000 on the clock. First impressions! I haven't straddled anything that wide in a long time ;-)
I'm going to take it slowly but I will get to grips with it.
Thanks for accepting me, stay safe.
Phil T.
