Hello all,
I'm about to buy my first Triumph, a 2005 America (or is the model officially called the "Bonneville America"?) I'm picking her up tomorrow afternoon. 13.5k Miles, runs but owner said she pops and sputters a bit when hitting the throttle (and I assume deceleration)... I asked if she was stored for a while and the answer was yes, stored for 2 or 3 years... so I'm guessing carbs will be getting rebuilt this winter. The only mod he knows of (it was his fathers bike) is the staintune exhaust... hopefully it isn't too loud.

Anyways, as for me... I like to tinker. I do all my own work and like to gently customize my bikes. I'm debating about a military inspired theme on this bike, or gentle bobber or cafe inspired hues... we'll see. In the mean time, I'll be continuing to ride my other bike, a 2012 Yamaha Raider.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome to TT from Eastern Canada as well.
Glad to have you with us.
Maybe try some Seafoam through it for a couple of tanks, see if that cleans some of the gunk out so you can ride and enjoy for the summer anyways.

I'm a fan of Seafoam and will give it a try. I'm hopeful that the owner is just being overly sensitive to some decel popping and it won't be a big deal. He said he thought it might have been related to the EFI that he just replaced... "EFI? It's a 2005, right? So it should be carburated." And then clarified that he had the shop replace the "thingy that controls the spark to get it to run, so maybe it just needs adjusted?" I assume he means the CDI. He mentioned he got an aftermarket one.

I'll start an appropriate thread after I get her home tomorrow and have a chance to rider her around the block a few times.

Maybe he was referring to the coil pack. Some earlier 865cc engines did have some issues with those.
Let us know what you find and how it runs once you get it home.

I had two 03 T100's. One had a problem with the coil packs. Once I replaced the coils, the problems went away.
