New helmet

It's painfully clear that neither one of you has ever ridden in Florida during love bug season. Do so, THEN extol the virtues of open face helmets to me! Eh, Carl???

Brother, you have got that right. One has to experience love bug season to believe it. I have seen them clog radiators on vehicles on more than one occasion. I have had to clean my shield every five miles.

Well, i'm really disappointed at this point. This is the best helmet i've had so far and i have been thrilled with it. I honestly enjoy riding more just because of it. Every thing is perfect....except for one thing i'm starting to realize. On the freeway as i get past 70 the wind pushes it back. So on long freeway jaunts my neck is probably going to take a beating, as the muscles are working to keep my head forward. I'm truly bumming over this because of the 5-6 helmets i've had so far, not to mention the probably 100 i tried, not one fit nearly this well. it's as tho it was fitted for me specifically.

if i lift the shield to the first notch the problem is solved, but then my eyes are being blasted. So i'm trying to think of a way to change the airflow just enough to eliminate this issue. I can always remove the shield and use it as a glasses/no shield helmet, or just use it for in town. but that defeats the purpose of a comfortable helmet i can use all around. Damn....:y8:

You may have the answer there Dale, tho Ive never used a visor on my helmet so I cant be sure.
I've always used good fitting glasses and been happy, when I feel my helmet starting to lift I know its time to slow down a bit.:y2:

I can, but i bought it specifically to replace my old shielded helmet that i dropped and cracked. I have another helmet i use round town with glasses. I guess i have 2 of those now, i dunno. Gonna see if theres a way to alter the aerodynamics. Could be a simple as a stick on rubber foot in just the right place to break the airstream or some such thing.

Have you thought about trying a defog spacer? I was reading about one last fall or late summer where the reviewer commented it allowed for a little summer air flow without having the visor raised to the first notch/stop. It deflected the flow up the visor but not into his face. I'll try to locate the article and post a link if I find it.

I'm not sure what you mean, but to clarify this happens with the visor all the way down, which is the only way i want to use the helmet.

I haven't been able to find the article but the anti-fog device clipped on the shield to hold it open just a fraction, not as high open as the first stop on most helmets. It might not help but since you had said the buffeting stop with the shield up at the first stop I thought this might help without having to open the shield that far.

Ok, i see. yeah, thats not likely to work, as if i open it at all air starts to get in my eyes, and it has no effect on the issue till it's open way too much. But thanks for the effort. I do have an idea i'm going to try and i'll post is it works.

I went for a long freeway ride today and i noticed if i slightly tilt my head lower that helps, as does pulling the helmet as far down as possible so the brow is lower helps also. It was very tolerable, but the problem i'n noticing is that at high speed (say over 75-80) with any kind of headwind or crosswind that causes it to start. But i think i'll be able to deal with it. I also had an idea to remove the screws on the side that the visor pivots on and screw them back in with a L shaped metal wing if you will. A ridge about a couple inches long and maybe a 1/2" tall and screw them on so they are at an angle so the air catches them and forces the helmet down. I will try that this week. But as is i think i can deal with it with the possible exception of very long freeway jaunts which i seldom do anyways. Otherwise what a pleasure it's been so far aside for the freeway isue. Of course is i were a law biding citizen and stuck close to the speed limit i wouldn't have this issue. :y2:

Same love bug issues here in Bama.

Darn pesky little things......why can't they "do it" in the dark private like more civilized bugs ?!?!?!?!

Ronnie, if you are looking at this type of helmet i think this is about as good as you'll find and one of the few if not only with that kind of shield that allows zero air to get into your eyes. Of course if your head is shaped different then YMMV, but for me it fits like a glove. They make another line called "Torc" helmets. Same company, but thats thier higher end line and it has a nicer liner thats removable. Might be worth the extra, tho i haven't seen one. theres a place nearby that has them supposedly and i'm going to check them out eventually. I'll post back if i do and let you know what i find. They're about $50 more, but for me being such a great helmet i'd be justified spending even more because it's so perfect for me. Aside from that issue, but thats getting sorted out as i ride more with it.
