I've had 6 helmets since i started riding again in '05. I should only have had one in that time but i kept buying them hoping to find one that ticks all boxes, but you don't know that till you buy and ride them a bit. Well, i finally found the one that does it all. Always loved those jet/chopper pilot style helmets with the goggle style 1/2 shield, but they allow air to curl under them and go right into your eyes. At least the one i had did. But i bought another one of the same style hoping that might be different and i was pleasantly surprised to find it works perfect. Your face get a nice blast like you're wearing a shield less helmet with glasses instead, but about 1/2 way up your nose the air is dead still ! It's really amazing. they must have wind tunneled this thing !

Anyways, it's lighter than anything i've had to date except 1/2 helmets, fits better than anything i've had, and looks great. The wide view angle is like no helmet at all. Theres just no blockage. When that is combined with a fit that is perfect and the light weight it almost feels like you aren't wearing a helmet, which for me is huge because i hate wearing helmets. It's also dirt cheap. I found it locally for $70, tho i have seen it online lower. There is also a better version by the same co. but under the "Torq" brand that is the same helmet but with a removable suede liner and optional bluetooth. Oh, and it's very quiet for a 3/4 helmet. They have flat or gloss in black, but i couldn't find a pic of mine (gloss) so heres a you tube of the blue model. I really enjoy riding more with this helmet !

EDIT: i noticed he said you can pull the liner out, but he's wrong. You can pull the ear pieces out, but not the main liner. Only on the Torc model can you do that.

This is a great add for those open face helmets.

Cool...i wear 1/2 helmets as well as 3/4. Doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that bikes are deadly with any helmet. But I still take my chances.

No, but of all the helmets i have had the vents made no difference in the slightest. It's a hot day today and i just was out at lunch on the bike and no different than any of my others. In fact with the 1/2 shield it seems cooler than my 3/4 with the full shield and vents. I think most venting on 1/2 and 3/4 helmets is more of a selling point than a real venting system. The company told me as much, that they don't vent it because open face helmets don't need it. I was more worried about the black because my other helmets have been silver with only one having some matte black with a 5" or so white stripe down the middle. But i once posted my concern about that here and everyone who replied said the didn't feel any difference between black or light colored helmets. Maybe it's the gloss that keeps black from heating you up the same way a black shirt does?

I'm not certain I agree about the ventilation, since even a 1/2 or 3/4 helmet should fit snugly so there would be minimal air leakage to the crown of the head; thus vents to keep that area cool should be useful.

My other question is - do the CF areas have any function - or are they cosmetic only?

Well, i can only speak for the helmets i've had. Maybe their ventilation is just lousy, (all mine have it except this Vcan) but they don't do anything. In any case this one is quite cool. My last one with full length shield and vents was w/o a doubt hotter. I would have sweated a lot on the lunch ride i just took, that much i'm positive about.

The CF do nothing, just cosmetic. Wished they didn't have them at first, but i've grown to like them. I doubt i'd have grown to like them on that blue one or other color tho because with the black theres little contrast.

I found a pic of the gloss black one. It's the Torc line, but like i said it's the exact same helmet except the full liner is removable and it has an optional bluetooth. I think that may be why it's quiet for a 2/3....because it needs to be for communications/music/etc.

I have to agree with the preference for open face helmets. I hate the stuffiness and closed in feel of a full face,to me the whole essence of riding is the feel of the wind in your face.
And the last time I wore my full face some silly bitch knocked me of my bike, so I reckon there bluddy dangerous.:y16:

It's painfully clear that neither one of you has ever ridden in Florida during love bug season. Do so, THEN extol the virtues of open face helmets to me! Eh, Carl???

wot have V/Ws got to do with it ? :y2:

Seriously tho, we get the odd bug here to, paticuarly in early evening in rural areas.
Its just a matter of pulling a buff or scarf over your nose to filter out the larger bugs and smaller birds.

Trust me, there are times of the year in the mountains of so call where i get pounded by bugs the size of chihuahuas ! And i've ridden days like that with a 1/2 helmet and glasses, no shield. I've had fat lips before from bugs that felt like they weighed 2 Lbs. :y13:

These were taken after a drive of less than 1 hour's duration during love bug season.

Don't think I'll be using an open face helmet anytime soon.

Yeah thats a bit much. I certainly won't be moving to Fl anytime soon ! But i have had a face shield that looks like that windshield after a ride during bug season before. In fact i has to stop a couple times and wipe it off during a 1-2 hours ride. But still not that bad. I generally use a shielded helmet during those months, but it's a 3/4 helmet. I'm not sure if it's the bugs nailing me thats worse of cleaning the bike after. Bikes are a collection of nooks and crannies, much worse to clean bugs from than a car.

But when all's said and done - I wear my latest full face because I love it!

Love Bug season in Southeast Texas can get just like Florida.
