On February 14th I had my semiannual eye exam at the VA in Orlando (Lake Nona).

I am talented enough to have been involved in a four car crash in a parking garage and I wasn't even in the car! I parked my car in the parking garage at the VA Medical Center. It is angle in parking and I parked right square between the lines I'm pretty good at parking and I'm kind of fussy that way. Well while I was in my appointment a patient came in driving the wrong way in the garage and apparently he had a medical emergency. I don't know whether it was a heart attack or a seizure or what happened to him but he lost control of the car. He rammed into a parked car which knocked that car into a pickup truck and knocked that pickup truck into my car. It was a strong enough hit so that my right rear tire ended up right against the yellow line in the parking spot which means it moved it moved my car a little better than a foot to the right.

I came bouncing downstairs after my appointment and as I'm walking through the parking garage I see these four or five police officers and a crowd gathered around and I'm looking at that see what's going on I saw a car that was damaged and I couldn't see my car because the pickup truck was in the way. I knew I had parked next to the pickup but something just didn't look right and I looked around I saw what didn't look right. The pickup was jammed up against my car I had to get in through the passenger door.

The damage to my car was relatively minor. It dented in the left rear quarter panel. But thankfully, it missed the left rear passenger door. It gave me a flat tire on the right rear. The tire came off the rim and would not hold air. I managed to get the tire to hold air long enough to get me to South Bay to a Firestone shop where I bought two tires.

I took the car to a body shop this morning. So I'm without a car for a week or so.

All three of us in the accident were able to drive away. The veteran who caused the accident is in the hospital. His vehicle looks driveable. I didn't see any fluid leaks.

With most of the impact energy going into the two other vehicles was good news for you and your car. He must have been going a wee bit too fast for this to happen. 3 vehicles........ sideways............ at what should have been parking garage speeds.

I suppose in his medical emergency he froze keeping his foot on the accelerator. He definitely was doing more than the 5 mph / 8 kph parking lot speed. The other two vehicles definitely absorbed most of the energy. That pickup is a full sized pickup and not a lightweight vehicle.
