OK, I found something I really hate about the Thruxton R: The seat material. I really hate it. It stains easily, and the stains aren't easy to remove. I talked to an upholstery shop and they quoted me $150 to recover it. Does this seem outrageous to anyone? And am I alone with this problem? I swear, my seat already looks 10 years old.

Dave when I first saw the new seats I thought wow, stunning, then did cross my mind what were they treated with,if anything.Seats on a bike do get a hammering,my partners boots are always sliding across mine.
Think I now know the answer to the question!

I thought about treating it with Scotchguard, but as it doesn't last, it would only be a temporary solution. I think I'm gonna have it recovered.

Shame that you have to work this out and spend more money on a new bike!!
Price of fashion I guess. It does look stunning, but practical, maybe not.

Well, I had the seat reupholstered. I dropped the seat off Tuesday afternoon and has it back Wednesday morning. They did a beautiful job. No more fake sueade. I originally planned to have the center section done in fake carbon fiber, but decided that material wouldn't go with the bike.

Thanks for your comment. I agree that the stock "suede" is garbage. After a week it looked like I had been jerking off in the saddle. I spilled some liquid wax on it and it wouldn't come out, no matter what I tried. So off to the upholstery shop it went. My hat is off to them- they did an absolutely stunning job.

Well, my re-upholstery job ended up sucking azz. The red thread I asked them to add turned white, and the upholstery itself is starting to look like crap. So... I ordered a new seat from Triumph- a seat for a standard Thruxton (149 bucks) . It fits perfectly. Even the cowl was a bolt-on. And, as an added bonus, I swear the stamdard Thruxton seat is way more comfortable. I think it sits a tad bit higher than the R seat, but that could just be my imagination.

That is a real bummer. I think the job they did looks outstanding, so it's obviously just the material used. I'm guessing you'd have to use some sort of heavy coloured nylon thread, as opposed to stained cotton. Still, it's great as a photo reference in case anyone needs to try again.

Actually, it all worked out for the best. I'm extremely happy with the Standard seat. It's a bit more comfortable now. But yeah, it's a bummer having spent the money.
