So, this is my first street bike. Bonneville T120. I live in Portland Oregon, where riding is limited due to inclement weather. I have much to learn if you have the willingness to share. Cheers.

Having had many close calls in my 50 plus years of street riding, here are a few things that stand out prominently in my mind.
Don't assume your street bike on the street is anything like a dirt bike in the dirt. Avoid turning and braking while in patches of dirt or gravel.
Before changing lanes make sure there is not a low trailer behind that truck that just passed you.
When you start a pass, look behind and make sure there is noone starting to pass you.
Just be careful, don't get complacent, and remember...its a high stakes chess game out there. Enjoy your awsome new bike.

"Hey" from NW GA and welcome! My best advice is to practice maneuvers and emergency stops before every ride in an empty parking lot. There are lots of websites that have great teaching and excellent drills. Just my opinion, but two of the best are: mcrider.com, and motojitsu.com. No doubt others here have their favorites too. I just make a 15-20 minute warm-up practice session part of every ride, and I think it makes me a better rider than I otherwise would be.
