Sounds like a plan. I think it was to you, Qship, I replied that a new gas cap is cheaper than tearing God knows what, spending money I may not have to spend.

I can't find a pickup coil listed the parts catalog. The starter and alternator page on shows a stator; nothing regarding a pickup coil. Is it know by any other name?
Stolen from the net, don’t have access to my own. Also known as an ignition pickup coil.

That's a lot for good information. I can only say thank you good sir.

I will try Qship's suggestion. If I do not get the sound of air into the tank, now I know what I'm looking for and where to get it.

Even though I claim 7 year of official riding, I don't mention the years of off and on riding friends bikes. So it's only been 7 years that I've become a bike mechanic. I feel pretty comfortable ripping into a bike, however, there are somethings I'm still learning: And, it's been a hell of a ride. In terms of learning to do my own wrenching. It's also been a great adventure now that I own bikes.

It's here and DRRiders (plus always buying factory service manuals) that have been fantastic in helping me learn.

I thank all from your suggestions. It's going to be awhile before I can report back on the cause, or still a problem. Typical November weather is getting in the way of things. I have a better chance of getting out on the bike in December.
