Last evening I watched (and fast forwarded through) an Audie Murphy James Bond-type of spy thriller set in Egypt in 1966. It had overtones of the conflict that would later erupt between Egypt and Israel.
There was a scene in which two soldiers are standing by two "military" motorcycles. They were clearly current civilian 500cc singles British Matchless motorcycles in black paint with the bold "M" on the gas tanks.
Murphy escapes on a horse and the two soldiers give chase through the desert and along a sand beach. The two "soldiers" could really handle the bikes and gave a good account of themselves, jumping over the dunes, etc., but of course Murphy escapes.
The chase was the best part of the movie:y2:

I think my all time favorite, other than On Any Sunday would have to be the Worlds Fastest Indian. Just a great movie all round.
You'll laugh you'll cry you'll kiss 1.00 goodbye (if you rent from red box) :y2:

Sadly most "biker" movies are cheesy garbage with bad acting horrible video quality and make bikers out to all be Harley riding knuckle dragging neanderthal law breakers.
Most really aren't worth the hour or so it takes to watch them.

I agree.
After The Wild One came out Hollywood got on the bandwagon with many low budget biker movies that are as you describe - not really worth the time to watch.
Maybe, back when they were made 40 - 50 years ago, they had some shock appeal with audiences, but it's now 2011 and a we're bit more sophisticated.
But maybe that should read " more accustomed to violence and bad behaviour."
Even so, they are pretty bad and in large part gave bikers a bad name for decades. It's quite amazing how people who watch movies and TV seem to accept what they see as the truth.
For decades motorcycle riders weren't accepted in many places even though they may have been doctors, lawyers, etc.
Thankfully, that stigma has passed and now motorcycles are encouraged and welcomed as motorcycles have become a common means of travelling.
But of course there are still plenty of idiots to go around and spoil things for all of us.

I'm on a small Australian forum and the owner collects vid's and dvd's of any movie that has a Triumph in it no matter how short the shot. I have to tell you now he has a collection of rubbish.:y13:

LOL You hit the nail on the head.

I've watched many a biker movie, from the good (On any Sunday, World's Fastest Indian) to the truly awful like Werewolves on Wheels, and strangely enjoy them all. Any movie or TV show with a bike in it, I'm focussing in trying to figure out exactly what the bike is.

The town I live in was never biker/motorcyclist friendly, but it's been changing in the past few years. Along with one of my old riding buddies back in the early to mid- 80's, I was kicked out of EVERY bar in this town. Heck some of them we didn't even get thru the door, we were met by the cops working security and told to leave. There was one bar that had the reputation of allowing anything and everything to go on inside, all the low life's (white trash, brown trash, black trash) hung out there and we were told we would fit right in. I laughed when told this because it was the first bar we were thrown out of. I have seen found this song that would have been our theme song if our experiences had been a TV show or movie...

I'll admit, that was back in my "pirate" days and I've cleaned up my act, well I've cleaned up my appearance. Now those same bars are for the most part biker/motorcyclist friendly. Heck we even have cafes, diners and such asking us about hosting some bike nights or weekend get togethers. Seems they now like our money. Some of them I still boycott, they didn't want my money back then and I ain't a gonna give it to them now. Like I said, I've cleaned up my appearance but I'm still the same person.
