Whine whine... You could be us We live here in Minnesota 17 below zero this morning Nope not kidding Can,t even work on the old triumph in the shop out back. Have a furnace in the shop but don't use it due to the cost of fuel running it out there when it gets this cold, is poorly insulated.. The concrete floors in the shop are ice cold and the cold travels up to the knees making them ache. So here I sit in the house looking out the window Had a basset hound named Blaze. He's gone now ,got very old & feeble.had to have put him to sleep. Our new Governor wants to do away with all combustion engines & go all electric cars ,trucks & motorcycles. venting doesn't help !! Oh poor me ! Gene in MN

I remember the blizzard of 1977. I was in New Ulm, at college. Someone had to shovel the pathway to the library, so people could study/research, I started, and decided I should finish what I started. Later, my girlfriend and I went to the "watering hole" for some beer. The temp was about -24, but the wind chill, made it nearly -40. Walking out of the bar, it was shocking how fast we sobered up.

In 1977 I was on the St. John River just above the Mactaquac Dam . Q knows how cold it can get there . If you had a mikuni ,enrichener equipped, you had to move the air box aside and stuff a rag in it . The Can Am had a tickler , Bing , and would start without the rag , but required a few kicks . Most were smart enough to wear snowmobile clothing .
A couple of weeks later I was farther up the river in Woodstock having supper with Gilles Villeneuve , his wife and the kids . He raced snowmobiles before becoming Enzo Ferrari’s favourite.

But today ...it’s -2 feels like -9 C with gusts to 60 km/ hr . Got at least a foot of white stuff , the fluffy type . Lots of things closed down , missed my dental appointment this morning . A couple of the neighbours got the snowblowers out but they are not retired so they don’t count . I can hang out till the wind dies down . Going to be the coldest week of the winter coming up , guess we deserve it but was really enjoying the green grass .

Some Good Advice on child rearing .
Got to watch hockey last night . Charlie Grace’s team was taking on an unbeaten crew from the other side of town . A one to nothing loss but we definitely had the advantage most of the game . At one point we kept them in their end zone for an entire shift , Chuck was on for that one . They got a standing ovation when the shift was over and both teams got the same when the game ended . Hockey is perhaps the toughest of games , but it teaches important/tough lessons that last a life time . If possible enroll those kids in hockey .

Around here MacDonald is probably the most popular name in the Phone Book . I realized you got some snow in Scotland , you should , Edinburg is 10 degrees farther North than Charlottetown. In fact the most southern tip of the England is 4 degrees above my 46 N but I still get a real winter . But do you Scotts buy real snow tires or just keep your fingers crossed , or just walk to the Pub ?

Most of us out in the wilds tend to have 4x4's and usualy have two sets of wheels one with summer tyres one with extreme off road tyres , and the townies tend to crash alot BGRIN

-23 c is - 9.4 f . That’s way down there for Prince Edward Island . Q would probably be ok with it . Gene is still champ but sympathy vote goes to the Orange Dragon . Scotland is the birthplace of curling isn’t it .
