Lane-Splitting

Please supply the CVC saying lane splitting, lane sharing is illegal.

BTW, the CHP has recently released "parameters" for lane splitting.
They are~
Lane splitting IS allowed @ speeds under 30mph.
Lane slitting IS allowed if the passing speed is "less than 10 MPH."

Lastly, riding on BOTTS dots with a bike with ABS makes your brakes all but useless. Turn off your ABS if you plan on splitting. (When they're wet, it's even worse.)

Prior to the release of the "parameters" of lane splitting in October 2012, the books did not state it was legal, the legal community (LEO's) just didn't enforce the law. The AMA and other organizations claimed it was legal because it wasn't enforced but by the books there was not a law or regulation making it legal. Other states have laws on the book addressing the practice which California did not have.

BMW (cage drivers) could save money by deleting turn signal indicators too! LOL!

Ain't that the truth.

here the first issue of the brazilian traffic code (ctb in portuguese) had an article saying that lane splitting was forbidden. then they revoked that item, having as motivation the fact that such a measure would be against some characteristics of the vehicle: agility, high maneuverability, space it occupies and many others. however, this brought more complications than before, because now everything is subject to the interpretation of the LEO. the new code states that the driver/rider must maintain enough lateral distance from other vehicles, but doesn't specify how far that distance should be... colleagues got tickets recently while lane splitting, and those tickets were issued by electronic equipment. in this case it is 0 or 1.

despite this, it's quite normal to lane split here. in são paulo, the leftmost "aisle" is taken by couriers. the image freaks me out... o_O

Again, no where in the past or present is there a California Vehicle Code (CVC) forbidding "lane sharing/splitting."

Some riders are scared of it. Especially out of State riders.

Some tourist motorists don't understand it (and get mad because motorcyclists get "ahead" of them.)

Sure, we have a problem with distracted driving. As far as I can tell, this problem is world wide.

So, let me say this~

Here in California, we have people from around the world mostly. Most of the people come from countries that have/promote lane sharing/splitting. Mexico is one of 'em.

Therefor, most of the drivers here, LOOK IN THEIR MIRRORS for motorcyclists coming up on them. Yes, they really do. They will "merge" to the other side of the lane very often, to make room for a moto to pass. I should shoot a video to show you just how motorists "part like the Red Sea." It's actually fun to watch it happen, as there's nothing like a motorist "opening up a door for you."

A good thing to do is give a friendly wave as you pass. It's courteous.

It's even better to pass a marked police car and they give you a "thumbs-up."

That, or I've been lucky since 1977 and >650,000 miles....
