"Kaptein" the feel good story of the year

The dog that fell down into Kimberley's big hole over a week ago was rescued on Saturday afternoon.

Kaptein, as the dog was named by twitter users, captured the hearts of the nation.

Warrant Officer John Sealy from the dog unit, together with a team of 7 members from ER24 rescued Kaptein in an operation that took 5 hours.

Sealey went down the hole equivalent of the height of the 50 story building and had to gain the trust of the traumatised dog at the bottom of the hole.

Since the rescue people a far as Canada have asked to adopt the dog. Sealy says the dog will stay in Kimberley.

Now everyone is rushing to adopt the dog and this is causing a bit of a stir who should be allowed to get it. The guys that actually rescued it also wants it and I say he should have first go as he was the one that risked his life to save the dog.

I agree. TUP This would seemed to be the best one to adopt it, but things don't always work out that way, hopefully it will this time.

I followed this story - we have so much bad news every single day here, this story just lifted my spirits. At first, the pooch was being called 'Underdog' and I kinda liked that. But the renaming to Kaptein is also good.

The Kimberly hole isn't a sheer drop - maybe, perhaps, the dog went down on a milder slope moving on the ledges that stick out of the rock everywhere. I don't know - I'm just guessing here. But so happy Kaptein is safe :-)
