Cheers G
Actually have that clip on my hardrive along with many others from that concert.
Tell ya wot tho, am impressed with Miriam Makeba, and the lion sleeps tonite has been a hot favourite of mine for years
Thanks much for putting them up

Thanks Devo. I'm so glad you like Miriam - to me she has the most amazing voice; I saw her perform live a couple of times (illicitly because we were not supposed to go the townships) and she just gave me goosies and choked me up everytime - still does. Her version of the Lion is the truest version to the original song. There are a number of other artists from that era like Thandi Klaasen and Margaret Singana who are just brilliant.
I truly love the voices of Africa - the natural timbre, accapelo, harmony, purity and rhythm is like nothing else on earth. There is a timbre in these voices that I have not heard or felt anywhere else where I have travelled and I really have travelled extensively. For me, the Zulu tribal voices are just the best.

DAVEM: I love Margaret Singana too and I think The Warrior should be our rugby anthem - Woza, woza, ipi m'doda! Come, come where are my warriors!!!

Originally written by Strike Vilakazi, Meadowlands is probably the mostly widely known kwela song in SA - mostly because it was recorded in 1692 by a white group The Metorites who were 'white men who could sing like a black man' - still played at parties etc and guaranteed to get just about everyone on their feet.
