Inside the Dr. Martens motorcycle boots by MoreBikes
Posted on Dec 10, 2014
Dr. Martens is launching the latest generation of performance boots specifically designed for motorcycle riders. Drawing on over 50 years of boot making expertise, the resulting design is simple, stylish, versatile and functional – with the high leg, GARRICK, and a slightly shorter alternative, FARIS.
Watch the video to see what goes into each boot…
Since the first Dr. Martens boot was made in 1960, footwear technology has developed considerably, but the premise for what is required for motorcycle boots remains the same: comfort, protection and durability.
With Dr. Martens renowned industrial heritage, these CE approved boots are loaded with an array of features.
They benefit from being made from full grain, water-resistant leather and from a soft, oiled industrial greased leather on the inside to avoid scratching from the bike. They have a Sympatex® waterproof membrane and an oxblood coloured breathable moisture wicking lining.
The Dr Marten Garrick motorcycle boot
There is a high grip rubber gear changer pad on the toe; a full length, water resistant zip and adjustable buckles at the reverse for added fitting purposes. The styles also benefit from traditional Dr. Martens pull on heel loops on the inside.
An industrial Nitrile rubber outsole provides SRA slip resistance and the sole has a customised DM’s tred pattern. The sole has been designed to prevent the foot from bending to extremes by providing Level 1 Transverse Rigidity.
The Dr Marten Faris motorcycle boot
Dr. Martens has also teamed up with cutting edge technology experts D3O® to incorporate vital impact protection inserts positioned over the ankle bone, and in the shin areas of the high leg Garrick. This patented technology creates a flexible shock absorbing material. In standard conditions its molecules flow freely and it is soft and malleable. On impact they lock together, becoming rigid, to absorb impact energy and reduce the force transmitted: the harder the impact, the greater the resistance to the force – ideal for motorcycle protective armour.
Both Garrick and Faris have been tested to EN standard for Motorcycle boots: EN13634-2010.
Available from September 2014 in sizes 4 – 12, Garrick RRP is £359.99 and Faris RRP is £249.99

From there I've had three Honda CBR600s, three Ducati Monsters, a Kawasaki Z1000SX, a Honda Dominator, a Honda CRM250, a Honda MTX125, a Yamaha DT80, a Yamaha Fazer 1000, a Honda Pan European, a Honda VFR800 and a Yamaha SR125. I love all bikes, and am as content to be tinkering in the garage as I am to be riding on the road or a track."
