This is how a prospective applicant replied to the requirements for immigration into SA and my explanations to him. With a sense of humour like this, guess which country he's from? Just loved this client.

Passport must have sufficient blank pages for the permit to be endorsed and to allow entry in South African (minimum of 2 blank pages);*
Derrr ok

2 colour passport size photographs;*
Need to arrange a shatter proof camera will do this week end.

Certified copy of unabridged birth certificate(s);*
You kidding I will retrieve it from *$*&( knows when I go back in July is this ok?

Certified copy of unabridged marriage certificate(s);*
Is this needed if I am not bringing her over.

Certified copy of final divorce decree(s) – if applicable;*
What the F#ck is this why do they need this anyway I am not yet divorced as this would involve talking to the b1tch
This is that expensive little piece of paper that some biased judge will decree as legal and binding once the divorce is finalised. Generally, it’s a license for one spouse to fleece the other spouse from now until eternity.

Proof of a spousal relationship (common-law spouse, life-partner). Note that if your home country does not officially recognise non-formalised relationships, South Africa will not recognise same unless proof of legislation from your home country, supporting this type of relationship can be provided;*
N/A not bringing

Police clearance certificate(s) from each country in which you have resided for a period of 12 months or more since attaining the age of 18 years, including home country (this is a vital requirement). The actual clearance certificate must be included in the application, and if the actual certificate is not available at the time of submission of the application, but proof that same has been applied for can be produced, it is soley at the discretion of the SA immigration authorities whether the application will be accepted or not subject to an undertaking by the applicant that the certificates will be submitted to the SA authorities within 6 months of the permit being granted;*
Will have to arrange a police clearance from Aus not sure if my convictions for Drug Running, Rape, Penetration of a Fish, Insolvency, etc will help or hinder my application to reside in SA which is crime free or must I prove a criminal record to fit in?.
As long as you can prove you had a shower after the rape, you’ll be fine and it’s not rape. Drug running – as long as you weren’t purporting that the drugs were ARV’s – they should be described a bartering currency for beetroots, African potatoes, olive oil and fresh garlic to assist in the fight against AIDS in SA. I can’t go into the Penetration of a Fish thing, it’s just too...... but for insolvency, you should justify it as having to repay the fortune you took from the public finds cookie jar. That way you’ll get a government grant and few contracts thrown your way to help you out of your financial difficulties. Once you’ve established yourself here, we’ll introduce you to few guys who can assist you setting up a criminal record – just to make you feel like one of us.

Comprehensive CV;
Supplied in this mail. Gee I’m Good.
You’re not good, you’re brilliant. All my clients are pure genius and walk on water. Wait till I’m finished with your application.

Medical certificate;*
How do I arrange and what does it need to say?
Straight forward – go to a General Practitioner doctor, no specialist needed. Cough, breath, kick you leg out straight when they whack you on your knee, act sane and you’re OK. No blood-sucking vampire like nurses need to extract anything from your veins.

Nah - he's got a Fireblade and terrorises the CapeTonians on the weekends. :y24: He's one of my favourite clients!

Other than refugees from the rest of the continent and Asia,I thought all the traffic was in the other direction.

Doug, you couldn't be more wrong. All I do everyday, all day is bring in highly skilled professionals INTO South Africa for long term assignments here. All legally here on valid work permits. Most of my clients are from the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Sweden, Canada, US, Holland. Of the clients I bring over, about 40% apply for SA permanent residence (like a US green card) because they fall in love with our country, weather, lifestyle and see so much opportunity here, unlike South Africans who are the ultimate doom and gloomers. We also have a large population of European "swallows". Retired people who spend 6 months here for our summer, and the balance abroad for the N.H summer. These people own their "holiday" homes here and wouldn't change it for anything. Contrary to common belief, every one of my clients is registered for SA tax irrespective of their source of payroll and they do pay taxes here and in their home country but the tax is equalised upon submission of their tax return. Once they exceed their tax resident physical presence test here, they are fully taxed in SA and loose the equalisation option.
I assist at least 5 families per month REPATRIATING BACK to SA and I'm just one small practise.

That really is news to me. So half our doctors, teachers etc. leave and we import more to replace them(at great cost no doubt) The 'swallows' or 'snowbirds' I can understand.
What sort of 'professionals' do you place?

Medical staff shortages is a global shortage. Medical professionals are being head-hunted from all countries and there is currently an international rotation of all medical staff. It's not unique to SA. During the WorldCup in Germany, there was a nationwide medical staff strike (but the media didn't make a big issue of this possibly ruining the WorldCup). Hospitals were closed, doctors and nurses didn't go to work, non-critical patients were advised to go home for family to care for them because there would be nobody at the hospitals to care for them. Why? Because the doctors and nurses were working 18 hour days due to a shortage of medical staff in Germany! The Middle East is paying big, big money to recruit the best of the best from around the world!

Ever wondered why we don't have a mass exodus of attorneys??? They can't practise law in another country without having to go back to 'varsity and write bar exams all over again and become articled clerks or interns before they can practise. Medical personal simply write 1 exam, have their qualifications evaluated, and are admitted to the relevant medical board or association.
PS: Our nursed who were actively recruited by the British NHS are coming home in their droves!

Ditto Engineers across all disciplines. The Middle East are building and building and building and have tons of money to spend. WORLDWIDE, there is now a shortage of all types of engineers because they are being recruited for a US$ based, tax free income, up to 4x's what they get paid in their home country. Again, engineering staff shortages is not unique to SA.

Professionals I bring in, I don't find jobs or place them. By the time I deal with the clients, they already have offers of employment in SA.

Engineers - across all disciplines;
IT specialists - programmers and programme writers
Technology - satelite, communications
Aeronautical Engineers
Safety & Security specialists
Finance - banking, trading and insurance
NGO's - across all activities
Construction - all disciplines
Physics - all disciplines
Journalists

And as a PS: I don't assist illegals or anyone who isn't 110% within the law. My client list is like reading the upper echelons of the Forbes 500 list - all incoming! From my position, I see loads of internation expansion and investment into SA, that's why I'm able to stay so upbeat about our future.

Crime does not seem to be a deterrent to professionals taking long term assignments in SA, and they bring their family with them. They are aware of the crime situation and we do give safety and security briefings BUT in my experience, I've never had one applicant decline a posting here due to crime.
