If it were not a Triumph What would it be?

  • I only started riding again because I had a Triumph way back.

I came back to bikes in 1992 on a New Honda and still own two of them so that's my choice.
When Triumph came out with the Bonneville model I couldn't resist because the profile was so close to the Bonneville of old.
I love my T100 and will be riding it today on a 285 km (178 miles) club run.

I feel that most of the major manufacturers out there have an naked, sport touring, or adventure bike that I could be happy with if I could have only one bike. Of all the makes listed in the poll the only one that doesn't currently have a model I would be happy with as my only bike would have to be Harley Davidson. Don't get me wrong they do have bikes I would own, but only as a second or third bike for occasional cruising. I enjoy all types of bikes and have enjoyed many different makes. We currently have a bumper crop of top notch machines available to the motorcycling enthusiast that I just can't narrow it down to one bike or company. So many bikes and so little time, money and garage space.

I would be riding a Suzuki or a Ducati ! I rode loads of suzuki's when I was younger and spent 14 years racing them , but the most comfy bike I have ever owned was my Ducati multistrada and I once Rode 730 miles in a day with only two short stops .

For me if they still made it the Kawasaki Z900 in green,

followed by my old GS750 Suzuki. Not many of today's bikes do a lot for me, either the exhaust is massive, or the styling just doesn't do anything for me. HD do seem to be able to hit the nail on the head in the styling department.

I've owned a Suzuki that lasted two months, worse bike I've ever owned. To be perfectly honest it wasn't the bike's fault, the previous owner had tried to use it as a submarine and didn't restore/repair it as he should have.

For Yamaha, there has been 3 of those. Each a pretty good reliable bike.

There has been 2 Triumph Tigers in the stable, both real joys to ride. The Girlie had issues that according to my mechanic were because of poor workmanship by a previous owner or two. At times I wish I had bit the bullet and spent the cash to get her back to 100%. The 800XC has so far been a greT bike. I'll place her either as the best street legal bike I've owned or tied for the best street legal bike I've ever owned.

Harley Davidson has been the name on the tank of two bikes in the line up of bikes owned. The Super Glide was a fun bike up to the night she was stolen. I replaced her with an FXWG Wide Glide. I loved that bike, the first one I had set up to me. I still regret the day I sold her, she is the other bike I rank as either the best street legal bike I've owned or tied with Jessica as the best.

There has been three KTM's in the stable and they are still there. They have been the best dirt bikes I've ever owned and raced. Awesome bikes and I would still like to have another one or two street legal ones. Anyone got a Super Duke I could ride once? I promise to return her to you, just won't guarantee she will be in the same shape on her return. :y2:

There is one of those Honda bikes in the garage, never ridden her. One of these days I might get her running if I don't sell her as a project bike.

I have owned Triumphs, HD's, Yamaha's and a Suzuki and a BMW. I liked every one of them. In the realm of modern bikes, I have only owned three Triumphs. If Triumphs did not exist, I would probably be riding a BMW.

I have to update my previous post. I'm pretty sure I'm going to bite the bullet and purchase a new Ducati Scrambler on Monday. I loved my old Triumph Scrambler and this one is about 100 lbs. lighter with more horsepower and torque. The one I'm looking at is the Classic. It will be replacing my T100. I put it on Craigslist, Pittsburgh, Pa. I'm to list it on here also. Wish me luck I've never had a Ducati before.

Robert your going to love it ! Ducati's v twin motor is AWSOME and they handle fantastic as well, I'm currently looking at getting another multistrada 1000ds I love the air cooled motors .

Nothing. ....o.k. MAYBE an Enfield. But WHY? nope....gotta be a Triumph. and sorry but a TRIPLE Triumph at that.
Short story long.......
I owned EVERYTHING (O.K. no Italian bikes) but all the others. I bought my first Triumph Speed Triple site unseen (and un ridden---yes stupid move) I picked the thing up in a uhaul----never even started it. (I did buy from a reputable dealership) when I got it home.....and FIRED OFF that triple 955i Fuel Injected beastie ......I was hooked.....sold....DONE been riding 36 years now....... I KNOW what I like.....
I owned a 4cyl Suzuki Katana, a 2 cylinder Suzuki Marauder and a Single Cyl Thumper BMW 650 Enduro when i bought the Speed3....and all where SOLD rather soon after getting the Triumph.
The Tiger is my third Triumph Triple........and well.....I see no reason to change.....ever.....I have all ready got a side car rig planned for when I am to old and feeble to keep the big cat on her 2 feet. :)
Happy Camper here 110%
