Well so many ways to clean and lube a chain. I have always cleaned my chains with paraffin using a stiff paint brush, and I must admit to taking a fair bit of time over it, more than 30 mins at least. I then soak up as much of the paraffin as I can. I'll either do 1 of 2 things, I'll take the Thunderbird out for a very short run, or put her on the main stand and engage 1st gear, with my hand firmly on the front brake. And the left hand covering the clutch lever. ( As the Village Idiot put it I wouldn't go anywhere the rear wheel when it's moving ) Doing this helps dry the chain even more, and warms the chain up, which is then ready to accept the chain wax that I use. I too lube from the inside, but I also make sure that the chain is well covered all over.
I have always looked after my chains this way, once getting 30,000 miles out of an original chain fitted to my FJ 1200 I had a few years ago

Boys,boys........I am meagrely showing the state of my bikes chain because I made a bald statement, how you let a chain get as dirty as the one in the video. I don't spend lots of time cleaning, I use the dry lube because it works and I don't have to worry about how I am going to clean my wheel, chain, sprockets, swing arm, chain guard, front sprocket cover.
I will clean my chain as soon as the weather is ok and post the pick's.

Sorry for edit, I forgot to add my bike has 28000km original chain never adjusted, yet.

Hello, well I took a big gamble today, to give my bike a quick wash and chain a clean and lube. Had sun shine five days in a row now, so I am taking my chances.

Before.......this is no cleaning for ages, riding in wet weather the last ten or so weeks to work and back, and weekend riding.

Just reviewed the video. When she sprayed the chain lube, she not only sprayed it all over the side of the tire, but she got the BRAKE ROTOR TOO...

Imagine how that's going to help decrease the brake pad wear!!

The "village idiot" call those "everlast" brake pads: Jim
