I love history. I scratch my head now and wonder why I disliked it so much in school.
Too young to appreciate it I guess.

I think it's because as a kid knowing that an examination about the dates and detail of things taught was number 1, actually feeling for the subject matter wasn't pushed. Now exams are a thing of the past you can actually learn and enjoy because it's real.

I've always enjoyed history even in school but my 8th grade teacher may have had a lot to do with it, 26 year old Cherokee with one killer body, man I loved going to that class almost as much as my algebra class. DROOL Don't know if I really learned anything in the classes but sure did enjoy them. But y'all are right, without the exams and getting to study the parts of history that I want to do seem to make the learning more fun, just with less enjoyable scenery.

The History Channel and the follow on channels are my favorites.

What I don't like about the History Channel is almost all of the programs have taken a view of the subject and tell it as a fact. The facts are what happened, it's up to the viewer to think for themselves and form a view. That's the way we were told it should be when I was a kid and I still agree. Extreme example, don't tell me that Hitler was a bad man, tell me how many people he had murdered and I will come to my own conclusion, I'm capable of thinking things out.

True, what I don't like about them is the ones that come out stating their view and they have it wrong. They present things from their view point but missed the boat on getting their facts straight. You have to pick thru their comments to get to the bottom of the issue. Remember the victor gets to write the history books and it is from their point of view and may or may not be what actually occurred.

The Military Channel now runs a lot of the shows I like to watch, weapons technology and engineering failures which at one time were the bread & butter of the History Channel. But I still like the History Channel and it's still one of my favorites.

Otherwise I hear you. I had a Spanish teacher that was quite the hottie, took 3 years of high school Spanish......can't speak a lick of it (Except to a few cuss words, I can tell a girl she is pretty, order a drink please or ask for the bathroom---though truly what more do you need????) but never missed a class.:y2:

My 8th grade teacher got me at least interested in History classes, my Junior year History teacher drove the message home. She was the first I remember pointing out that the victor wrote the history books and we needed more views than just the one presented. She also thought us how to read a news article and once that was done, read from the reference source or search for answers to the questions that the proper reading technique of the news article brought up. It sure has gotten easier to search for the answers with the Internet but it is also easier to get additional false information.

I wish I could go back and sit thru their classes again, I know I would enjoy them even more today.
