You realize that most 16 Thruxton R model parts will also fit yours .
Hi
Yes but here in NZ there are very few Thruxtons, R,s and R.S in the breakers yards and the newer the bike the harder to get parts as most people would rather fix there own.
As a side issue I have just had made a few CNC Aluminium Gauge Bezels with the mounting surround Plate for the 2016 Thruxton 1200cc and up to 2023 Speed Twin 1200cc Bonneville models that have the same Double Gauge Cluster so will have a Replacemet Bezel options for anyone with damaged Bezel Gauge surrounds. These can be polished or Custom Anodized pictures to follow.

Well after a lot of searching and waiting I have all the parts replaced of repaired and the Thruxton is off to the local Triumph Agents Workshop in Auckland NZ. on Wednesday next week to get the Gauges and new Ignition lock and Keys Coded to the ECU plus a ABS Brake declaration check which is mandatory to get a damaged insurance written off bike back on the road hear in New Zealand.

Hi Sorry
I did not see the reply.
The damage was severe but as I only paid $2300 NZ I thought it was worth repairing the bike!
Here is the list of damaged lor lost Parts! Indicators broken x 3, Gauges were lost destroyed , Headlamp totally demolished, Forks slight Bent, Yokes Twisted, Frame Hadstock out of alignment, Fuel Tank had several good dents and creases, Foot Peg Broken, Gear Lever Broken and bent, L/H Silencer grazed, Ignition Switch broken lost parts, Bent L/H Clipon riser, L/H Switch Bank Damaged, Both Mirrors Broken, Scratched sSde covers, Seat Broken fastenings, Tail Light Cracked

After too many late nights trying to find good used parts, with far too many dead ends, I had to admit defeat and buy New Gauges, New Ignition Lock Asssebly, New Headlamp rear case. Clipon Riser, New L/H Foot Peg Mount. So after spending far too many $$$$$ the bike is ready to get checked and certified,
Then re registered for the road.
I have to admit that it does look pretty darn nice now the FuelTank and Side Covers are freshly painted with a new single seat with rear cover in the Dark Metalic Green to match the fuel tank.
I spent a great deal of time watching panel beating and tank repairs so I could do the repairs to the Fuel Tank which is now faultless.

But whilst I was I was waiting for the Thruxton parts to arrive and to get parts painted I picked up an accident damaged 2023 Triumph Speed Twin with only 98 Km on the clock this bike is as close to New as you could possibly buy from any dealer.
So I am keeping myself busy in retirement

98 Km poor bugger.

First, welcome to our community.

I live the US, so I have zero knowledge of the NZ market. I don't know about others but I'm trying to keep my Bonnie as OEM as possible. Triumphs are rare enough in this country. The SE model was only imported for 2010, '11 and 12'. I would imagine this would make the SE even rarer in the US. That's why I'm trying to keep the bike stock.

So, I order my parts either through my local dealer - local dealer as in one hour travel time, one way - or through a OEM parts warehouse.

I do hope you get the bike up and running soon.
Hi Red Dog
I have the bike ready to get the Gauges and ignition lock and keys coded next week and everything else is repaired or replaced with New or second hand parts but the expensive parts were the gauges headlamp cluster and rear light and indicators which all had to come from Triumph UK thur our NZ local agent upto 120 working days for come parts like front Guard so I modified a old Style Aluminium Guard in my Wheeling MAchine to shrink the Radius to match the 17 wheel and tire.

Great looking repair! Tank looks flawless. Can you describe how you took out the dents?
Hi Thanks it certainly was a challenge as I had never repaired a tank with damage like this. Firstly I do have sheet metal working experience as I have been welding and working with steel and Aluminium for many years.
Firstly I have to thank a friend who lent me the use of his panel repair Stud/ Pin Spot welding unit Thanks Hugh!
Spep 1 strip all the paint from all the damaged areas in this tank I just stripped the whole tank as it was dented all over.
Step 2 starting bu pushing out any dents thru the fuel pump hole on this tank.
step 3 using the stud Spot welder I worked pins on the outer edges of all the dents and with a Slide Hammer slowly worked all the dents to the level just below the original surface of the tank.
I kept repeating this and cutting off the first set of pins as you go until most of the dents were out to a level which required very little filler after grinding the pins off flush. At one point the tank looked like a hedgehog with Alopecia. The crease on the left leg recess was a bit tricky as the material had formed a crease, So I pulled the top surface up further and then carefully hammered the area that was creased back into the radius of the original.
The really bad dent where the Clip On pushed and folded the edges was no t up to my standard so I cut a area out and made a template.
Cut a piece of steel larger than the hole template.
Using a sand Bag and a radius face mallet I beat a piece of 18# sheet metal to a rough form the with my cheap English Wheeling m/c which smoothed out the piece to as close as possible to the form of the tank, This was the trickiest part which I Tig welded into the hole after I had trimmed to the template.
After welding I sanded the welds and where possible get a panel beaters dolly on the inside of the tank to hammer against, this was a hard thing to do whilst you hold the tank , dolly and hammer the material back into shape, I then using tank seal put two coats inside the tank to make sure I would not have any unforseen cracks which could leak thru the paint surface. In total I spent about 8 hours getting the sheet metal part of the tank, to a finish that I was happy with.
I only put a max of 1mm of filler on any part of the tank but this was only after I did a Two Pack etch priming to the bare metal.
Then putty Sanding paint putty Sanding more paint and sanding to get a pretty nice finish ready to get professional paint shop to spray a clear cote the tank in a spray booted.

As you can see I stripped the clear cote off the Alternator and Primary cover then sprayed with three coats of High Temperature Semi Gloss High Temperature paint

I only need to finish painting the front guard and fit
Its been a busy few months as I am also working on the a 2023 1200 Speed Twin and a couple of Speed Triples a 2018 R and a 2019 S these were pretty badly damaged so may take a little longer to fix but one is progressing well.
