Hi all thanks for your kind comments. I didn't know you cared LOL

Well the summer is over and the Trophy is tucked away in the garage.
She had the usual rough running at low revs. Just give up on that now. I put in a fan switch as the fuse kept blowing. But it hasn't done anything. Still blows. New fan too!
I think I will have the tank off and check the fuel lines and vacuum hose

The old 1977 Tiger rolls on despite the Trophy and Harley breakdowns
It may be relevant to the sparkies out there?

I know its not Triumph but the problem could be?
My Harley has been blowing the 15 amp fuse for years now. I just left it. For years the Hi beam or spots would blow a fuse. Slight melt at the fuse box.Even with recommended fuse!
But a recent check with a nechanic had it supposedly thoghourly checked. On its first trip out the lights blew again
Roadside assistant found the fuse hanging off and re attached it. On the way home. The Engine Management light came on and the charge stopped.

Back at the mechanic. He says its the alternator, but rectifier is OK

I am puzzled. Because the charging problem only started after the re attaching of the fuse

Would a short through exposed wire cause a low alternator charge or no charge?
Any thoughts?

Yep guy coming on Friday to help me with the Harley
The Trophy. I shall get the tyres done first and then get stuck into the thing. Lot easier than the big un lol :y18:

LOL. Yep I got all my Trophy mechanicals sorted. After I was on here.
The Trophy needed even more. It had a new Engine, New Radiator, another radiator, New Alternator, I took it through a 40,000 at the dealers to check the lot. Fine for a while. Rode it to London from Wales. I put in new oil for a long ride etc. When I got near to my sons house. It was losing power and finally stopped. I got it to my sons house . I checked the oil. Not a drop. No smoke from the exhausts, no oil leaks anywhere. There was that horrific noise when I started it again. Big ends gone!

So I thought. I know. I will deal with the mechanical problems. I took it to a breakers.

I knew the new Trophy shaft drive was about to be released as a 1400 but because I have owned 2 Trophies and had all this trouble. I now decided I will get a new bike. A Kawasaki 1400 and have some No Worries riding.
I still have the old Meriden Tiger so I still qualify here lol
To be fair. I have had nothing but trouble with the Trophy's
My 1996 had 4 cam chains fitted, and 28 other faults during the warranty.Seat replaced, Electrics repaired, brakes checked etc..... Including a factory visit. They stated that the cam chain was a bad batch of spring adjusters and anyone could have missed that. Well its odd Because the dealer, Boyer Racing, I got it from, had his franchise taken away by Triumph
I got rid of that bike and got another Trophy and immediately had the forks replaced, and the rear caliper. then the headlamp fixtures being plastic snapped. £150 to replace. So Blue Tac did the job. Continual rough running.
That continued with heaps of repairs. I had the rough running checked at garland and Griffiths. I paid £1500 for the top end overhaul only to be told the con rod was bent. New Engine! Garlands have also lost their franchise!!!!
Then further rough running and finally scrapped. So piece of mind now. Harley hasn't missed a beat.

WOW ! thats a tail of sadness if ever i heard one :y1: i have a trophy a 1999 and mine misses and farts from time to time and then runs fine ! i think its the vacum pipe to the fuel tap getting squashed and not pumping fuel .
triumph didn't leave much room for it !:y7:

I haven't got the Kawasaki Yet. Probably get it in September now. I still have the Harley and the 1977 Tiger to run about on. Spits and farts?
Yep I renewed all the pipes under that tank, The airbox filter, coils, ignitor, contact coils in the engine. And still it would have that hesitaton. Just lived with it for years. When I first ever purchased it. I took it back on the same day as I thought the rear brake was siezed or something. Boyer Racing told me they are all like that. Every other bike I have owned and still have have great rear brakes.
I constantly had footpegs working loose. Never had that on any other bike. Bolt fell out of kick stand. Not had that on other bikes. But this thing controls the starter switch. To change a chain and sprocket on any other bike is simply remove covers. On a Trophy its takinf the dipstick resovoir, Footrest bracket, exhaust etc. Nightmare
I am actually pleased that this ordeal is finally over.
