A (somewhat) short note to introduce myself. As my moniker indicates, I'm a midwest US guy who recently bought my first brit bike, a '78 T140v. I've wanted a Bonneville for more than 30 years, since I was a kid. Back then a guy who lived in the apartment upstairs from my family brought home a '70 T120. I thought (still do) it was the coolest bike I'd ever seen and swore I would have a Triumph of my own someday. And to think it only took me 38 years to make that happen!
I owned a couple of Yamahas many years ago; Back when I was just a kid. Now, since the kids are (mostly) grown and life's not that crazy, I decided to keep the promise I made myself all those years ago.
I've spent months as a lurker on this board learning everything I could about these bikes. I owe the experts here a huge debt of gratitude for all of the knowledge imparted. It definitely saved me from making at least one huge buying mistake.
My plan is to enjoy riding her this fall (the best time to ride in upper midwest imho), and then open her up and make an assessment of what needs to be done over the winter. Ultimately, would love to take on the challenge of a full rebuild, or at least to the extent of what's needed.
