It was three months today (5 July - 5 Oct.) since I took that nosedive into a Peruvian ditch and wrecked my shoulder and hand.
Looking back now it doesn't seem that long. Considering the discomfort and lack of mobility I wasn't all that bored and the time seemed to pass quickly.
July was the worst month. I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep and I spent most of the night and my time in a Lazyboy chair. My wife is a saint, and in spite of her own physical limitations due to her health, she cared for me like a trooper. For the first time in my life I was almost helpless and had to give in to being waited on. I was never depressed but I did feel a bit of guilt having put this burden on her.
August was better as I gained mobility in the shoulder, some grip in my hand and was able to start doing things for myself.
September was much better as I started driving my car, doing some household chores, and many simple things you normally take for granted.
My hand and grip is much stronger and it's a great feeling to be able to use both limbs again (within limits) and not have to ask for help.
Better days are ahead.

Hey there Rocky,

You can add me to that list of folks who continue to keep you in their prayers. I think you have done exceptionally well with your recovery. I fully understand how it feels to finally be able to do the simple things that most people don't give a second thought. Been there, done that....

I bet you will be back on your bike before you know it...(well, AFTER the Winter). But the delay may be a good thing, forcing you to take your time to be sure that you are completely ready.

Just to keep you up to date, I brought my new Tiger home yesterday. What a ride! This bike has power to spare and handles extremely well. I even had to deal with several rain storms on the 150 mile ride home, but never felt even a little bit uncomfortable with a new bike. This bike instills great confidence with its comfort and handling. I am anxious to ride it to work tomorrow, weather permitting, just to see the comments of my friends that are used to me on dark colored, classic style bikes. An orange sports tourer is not typical of my rides, to say the least.

Take care, and please keep us all posted on your continuing recovery.

You guys are the best :y115:
Thanks for your support and encouragement.
I think I'm doing pretty well (all things considered) after only three months but I'm far from recovery yet. I'm sticking with the physio program 100% (at home and at the clinic) and just happy to have my independence back.

Shyguy, I'm glad you're thrilled with your new ride. The Tiger has a wonderful engine from everything I've heard about it. With all that power on tap you will have miles of smiles.
Keep us up to date.
