I wanted to post this in keeping with Independence Day here in the USA. I think it is a very neat expression of the holiday. It is not meant to put any other country down nor glorify American patriotism. I just think it is very cool.

Yes, they were just volunteers. They are a group that performs, however. The tune is Stars and Stripes Forever by John Phillips Suza. He composed it in 1896. It is a traditional march tune and is still played by bands today - high school, collegiate, and military bands. I have marched to it many a time.
 
John Phillip Sousa was a composer and leader of the US Marine Corps Band. He also wrote "Semper Fidelis", the official march of the US Marine Corps.

This is the Marine Corps Band performing Semper Fidelis at John Phillip Sousa's grave in Arlington Cemetery (this is an annual event)
