Well, A full report was promised and a full report you shall have.
Perfect weather and a perfect ride. We left out from Daphne and ran down the Mobile Bay to Fort Morgan. A Ferry service runs from one side of the bay to the other.

We got there at the back of a long line, but luckily a group of Triumph riders from Pensacola had gotten in line early ....saw the Tiger and waved us forward :y2:
To the head of the class!

Here is our ride across the bay. Can just see the Tigers hard bags and Top trunk in front of all the Harleys....hee heee

ANd low and behold the owner of D&D Cycles in P'cola was riding a new demo 800 Tiger with only 200 miles on it. We had a long discussion.

All bikes where represented at the show, many in the show and many others ridin to the show. Triumph had a big following as well as Harley, BMW and MotoGuzzi. A Norton "project" that made the trip from Pensacola...and from what I understand back to Pensacola with no "issues". Brought back memories watching him KICKSTART that thing as we got ready to leave the ferry! Even a Jawa and a CZ. And one world record holding Honda 125 from Bonneville Salt Flats! I will shut up now and post the eye candy :y2:

Thanks for sharing! The pictures looked great to me here on the phone.

I want to see a new Tiger up close, maybe I'll get lucky before long and get my chance.

Great photos. Thanks for sharing. I sure wish I could have been there. I Like the 54 BMW with hack! TUP

Tell us about your conversation with P-cola Triumph owner. I am very interested in what he had to say about the Tiger 800.

Well Carl, he had only put about 200 miles on this bike, the street version and said he loved it. (of course he does sell them)
He was very impressed with ride quality, the fact it has a huge alternator and can handle multiple....on top of multiple "gadgets" (something my big Tiger has a hard time with without some modifications. Seat height was very low....for a dual sport type bike though he said he had it on the lowest setting. He was maybe 5'7".
He said it held its own very well on the superslab and was actually making him rethink his bike of choice, which was an 09 SPrint. The word "flickable" was used regularly.
I think he was being genuine, he REALLY liked my '05 Tiger and commented on how amazingly durable the 955 engines are. Said the thing would last me a lifetime even if I flog it hard regularly.TUP So he wasn't pushing a sale I guess is what I am saying.
Wind protection was said to be good, but with about a 4" height difference I don't think he was getting the buffeting on the Tiger the 6' and over crowd do.
I liked the 800 Tiger IMHO the engine resembles that of the 800 BMW GS and the frame is almost Ducati-ish in a manner. It is a narrow bike and seems much much smaller next to the 955 version. I think if I where going that route I would go with the more dirt oriented version taller front tire because really it looks like a dirt bike to me, Side by side.....Tiger 955 was like a Sherman tank and the new Tiger 800 is like an F-16 it is an amazing bike. I wanted to steel his and go jump some sand dunes with it!!!!

FYI he also hinted Triumph is coming out with another "new" design sometime this year.....I asked if they where going full on dirtbike....he said it was rumored but most likely would be a larger displacement sportbike or a BIG TOURER like the older Trophy 1200 to battle the BMW and Japanese big tourers.....

Holy cow late for work gotta go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Adrian; I appreciate the information.

There is an optional, manually adjustable, windscreen for the Tiger 800 and XC which may really help the six footers and over. Since his was a demo bike bike, I am pretty sure it has the optional windscreen. Triumph sends an accessories parts kit along with the demo 800's to the dealers. The kit includes the Arrow exhaust and the adjustable windscreen.

Yes, the XC's front wheel is larger and the XC's wheels are spoked. I had a 45 minute conversation with the Triumph test rider who tested both versions for Triumph in Spain. He convinced me that unless one does at least 40% of his/her riding off road, seriously off road like the Baja, one does not need the XC. He took the 800 everywhere he took the XC and the only time the 800 was at a disadvantage was in extreme wet or extreme dry conditions. For my style of riding on dirt or gravel roads, woods roads, and fire brakes, he convinced me that the 800 is all I would need.

THAT is a world record holding Honda RS 125 that ran at Bonneville Salt Flats....I think it went 136mph or there abouts...picture 12 (if you zoom in) is a picture and info sitting against the front tire on the number of records the bike holds and a picture of the lady who rides it.
