Re: Ghosts Od WWII

Another great example of the fact that only 3 countries were involved in WW2, Germans, Japanese and Americans. :y13:

Ghosts of World War II Article said:
Historical expert Jo Teeuwisse, from Amsterdam, began the project after finding 300 old negatives at a flea market in her home city depicting familiar places in a very different context.

I'll bet you could do the same thing if you scour the flea markets in your area.......:y2:

I really fail to understand where you are coming from here???

Some of the pictures show British Flags.

These were all photos made possible by a French person of French cities. You really aren't going to find Russians or Indian soldiers fighting in France...that was mainly British and American forces liberating France.

Had the old photos been of someplace other than France (such as in the Pacific Theatre of War), you might see superimposed pictures of Australian or Kiwi solders in them.

Don’t take any notice of me. The West (or at least Australia) is swamped with American imagery and it just pis*es a lot of us off.
It sure isn’t your fault, I sometimes jump in and say what I think when keeping my mouth shut would be a better option.

I respect the soldiers of all nations. All are putting their lives on the line for the countries and following orders. War is a terrible thing.

I agree completely and fear that "War" is becoming too technologically advanced.

The greatest deterrent to war is the horrific loss in casualties and infrastructure.
With the new tech approach with drones and remote "kill", our casualties are far less (a great thing) and I fear that those "in charge" won't weigh their choices as gravely as in the past.

Very provocative photos and emotionally stirring. Well done to the creator of these photos. My mom would love these. RAF lieutenant that she was and being of French heritage makes these photos just that little bit more special.

I had to come back to this post and look at the pictures again. What this photographer has done is quite incredible - bringing the War to life in a completely new way and hopefully, will bring an awareness to many of the real horrors of war. I'm not interested in the nationalities of the soldiers in these photos, just that these were all someone's father, brother, uncle.................
This is one of the most powerful set of photos I've seen in many years.

AJ, THANK YOU for posting!

No one abhors war more than those who have to fight them.

There will always be those who are the boots on the ground that have to hold that ground where technology doesn't matter.
