I know some people hate fruitcake but I suppose it is what you used to and as far back as I can remember my mother has been baking fruitcake for Christmas. So I now have her recipe and have carried on baking it each Christmas.

It is a bit of a process to do but for us is well worth the effort and here is the one I just took out the over last night.

So now it will stand until Christmas day and every few days will have a bit of brandy poured over it to soak in. The best fruitcake I have ever eaten and if you had to buy this in a shop it would cost 10x more than what it cost to bake it. I must admit it still is not cheap to bake but well worth the cash if you do enjoy fruitcake.

Please just note we have never baked the small one so the baking time might not be correct so you will need to test the cake to make sure it is baked. Do not open the oven till nearly baked as it will sink in the middle.

The recipe for this cake is attached below.

It looks absolutely delicious TUP
As a kid, I remember my grandmother's making fruitcakes for Christmas and some sort of sugary/tangy spread to put in a slice if you wish.
Thanks for returning my memory to those great old days.

The wife kindly typed it out for us so here it is attached.

Many thanks to Dave and his wife.

Remember this is a closely guarded family secret recipe handed down for generations BGRIN

As you will notice it is in metric but the original faded one handwriting by my mother was still all imperial mesuments.

The wife redid it in metric for us as it is just easer than having to convert mesument each time we make it.
