Those last two pens are both fantastic looking pens. Excellent job. Bet D-I-L was tickled purple?
She was. I showed her some of my pens that I had an old pen case and told her to select the one she wanted. She selected a Pink Ivory Breast Cancer Awareness pen I had turned 14 or 15 years ago. Her mom passed away a few months ago from breast cancer so I was pleased with her selection. After she made her selection I told her Alex had, in the past selected several pens for himself and I had turned a couple for him that were my choice. With that in mind now that she has selected hers, I gave her the purple pen turned just for her. So yes, she was tickled purple. BGRIN

It took a while to pull together the pen for my son's graduation from the University of Texas, Cockrell School of Engineering with a 3.5 GPA but the pen is ready for him. The commencement program for the engineers was just completed, virtually and the University Commencement will be virtually at 9:00 PM tonight.

"HOOK 'EM HORNS"

I took a piece of spalted Pecan and turned a seam ripper for my Mom. The pecan was an old tree beside my grandparents house. She and her sisters played under it as kids and then me and the rest of the grandkids played under it when we were younger. My grandfather would set some of his harvested watermelons under the tree for us grandkids to have when we came over. I know the tree was at least 60 years old and no telling how many pumpkin pies were made from the fruit. It was also under that tree when several of the grandsons received a shooting lesson we would never forget. We were trying to shoot some of the pecans to knock them out of the tree when our grandmother came out and caught us shooting her pecans. She went on to read us the riot act about putting BB's into the meat of the pecan. We were told we were not allowed to shoot any more if we couldn't do like her and hit the stem and break it off the limb. Well being the oldest I had to stand up for the 5 or 6 of us and said something along the lines of "you can't do that." She jerked my Red Rider out of my hands, spun around and quick fired, hitting the stem and breaking the pecan off from the tree. She handed me my Red Rider and told all of us that she had better not find another BB in one of er pecans. Needless to say, we were determined not to be out shot by our grandmother again. My mom and her sisters laughed when we told them what happened and my mom's younger sister told us our grandmother was known as "Dead Eye," one of the best, if not the best squirrel hunter in the area. Every squirrel she killed was shot through the head and most of them was through the eye.

And before I finished it, just sanded and sealed, sitting on the block of wood it was taken from.

Been a little busy in the shop again.

I had an order from a former elementary school classmate I haven't seen in 47 or 46 years. She want one for her boss and one for her husband as an anniversary gift. Once I showed her some options she ordered two for his anniversary gift.

The boss's pen was one like D-I-L's pen

The first anniversary pen I turned out of pieces of seats from Death Valley but it was actually the second pen she ordered for their anniversary.

The first pen she ordered for their anniversary blew up on the lathe so I had to order new parts which caused it to be the second one completed.

I had an extra kit available so I turned a pen with sycamore and gave it to my S-I-L.

My wife showed my S-I-L the pen I designed and turned for Kyle's graduation and she asked if I'd make another pen for a friend whose daughter was also a 2020 graduate. She asked if I could do one with her school colors and logo. This is what I designed for her.

My D-I-L asked if I could do a Father's Day pen for her dad. She was thinking since he was an Air Force veteran that a SAC pen would be perfect. This is the pen I designed and then taught my D-I-L how to turn the pen so she could tell him she did most of the turning, I just finished it for her. I thought I had some photos of it but all I could find was this video.
