The North Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. Yesterday the first tropical storm of the season, Aurthur, formed about 70 miles east of West Palm Beach. Right now it is about 90 miles due east of Cape Canaveral which makes it about 140 miles east of me. Top sustained winds are 60 mph. It is expected to reach hurricane strength tomorrow.

The heaviest rains are to the east of the center and we will only get a few showers and some breezy winds. It is moving north at 6 mph and should turn to the north east. Rocky might get some of the weather Sunday or Monday.

It looks like Saturday will be a wild and woolly day with some wind and heavy rain.
Warnings have already been issued to expect Arthur over the weekend.
The wind isn't expected to be anything too serious, but the rain is expected to be very heavy.

When I posted above I hadn't heard the latest info on the storm.
Now it looks like it could be a little more serious, but the weather office isn't sure about the track yet.
It might track right over us or it might pass just to the south. It's a waiting game.
The storm should weaken some by the time it gets here - we hope :y2:

It is always a good idea to take these storms seriously. Did you ever invest in a generator?
No, I never did. I'm not sure the investment is worth it since we only seem to lose power for a short while.
The only time we lost power for a long time was during Hurricane Juan in 2003.
I'm probably running a risk, but I haven't dismissed the thought of getting one entirely.

The way it looks right now, Arthur will pass slightly to the north and we will get less rain here on the coast, but still gusting winds in the 55-65 mph range (90-100 kph).
It's the calm before the storm right now, but solid overcast with fog, drizzle and showers.

I am hoping that you all are spared in significant damage. It is down to a category 1 now and will weaken and break up up as it hits the colder northern Atlantic waters. It will still be mighty stormy though. Stay safe.

Anything that is loose has been brought in. I have lots of food that can be eaten cold (I have a Coleman stove if we lose power for very long :y2:); the car is full of gas and I have lots of water.
Nothing much to do but sit and wait.
I think Arthur will have deteriorated quite a bit once it gets here and over our colder waters, but you won't really know until it happens.

I just saw the latest track forecast. If it follows two of them you might see the edge near the eastern horizon. If it follows any of the others you will be on the dirty side of the storm. Hopefully if it hits you it will only be a short light rain.

There's no doubt that we'll get something from the storm here on the coast. A storm ocean surge for sure and mostly wind with less rain is the latest word. The surge is what does damage to the coastal regions.
I'm in the heart of the city and well above sea level so it won't bother me and my cottage properties are on a lake rather than on the ocean.
All the trees have their full growth of leaves and act like a sail in the wind so that's my main worry - falling branches or trees.

Friday started foggy and wet, but it has cleared and it's a beautiful calm day.
Better enjoy it while we can I guess :y2:

The storm moved a bit to the north west, but here where I am we're getting high gusting winds and power in many areas (including parts of the city) is out.
As a result of the slight shift we're hardly getting any rain at all where I am. Other areas are getting hammered. My lights have blinked a few times, but so far, so good.
But it ain't over 'til it's over :y2:
