I was really in to this back in the '80s. I was doing and engineering apprenticeship at the time. I found it took me away from the real world when I needed it. I finished the apprenticeship in 1988 and work got crazy for years after that. The railroad went by the wayside. There are still remnants or it in a backroom in my workshop. ...J.D.

Back when my son was about 10-11 years old we bought him a train set for Christmas and he enjoyed it for only a while.
I have a finished attic which would have been a perfect place to set up a layout and get into some serious railroading.
I bought some model railroad magazines and talked about layouts, scenery, buildings, tunnels and all that, but he just wasn't interested so the idea died.
I think that railroad set is probably still in the storage area in the attic 40 years later.

Had a train set when I was a young lad. My Dad and I built a small layout on a 4X8 sheet of plywood and added a few sidings and model town using a old X Mas village complete with lit houses. Had a tunnel and all. Was pretty cool. Tyco was big into model train sets back then in HO gauge.
