Guitar and vocals. I'm not a singer really, but we eventually figured vocals on the level of say mick jagger's are better than great vocals coming from a primadonna. (not all singers, but a lot are !)

I find the idea of no smoking in pubs insane ! They did it here several years ago too and I think it's just stupid. here at least i'd say the majority of people who go to bars to drink also smoke. And bars have always been a place where people smoke and drink. It's thier only and last place to do that and i think it should be left to the bar owner. It's just wrong IMO. The bars lost a lot of business and many went out of business. being a bar musician for many years, i saw what it did. And it just killed the bar scene for us. I ended up quitting that life anyways because i had issues with my hands that rendered me almost useless as a musician about that same time anyways, so i lucked out in that regard. but it really destroyed the bar scene. It may not be a particularly healthy way to live, but it' should be left up to the people. It's this kind of govt policing thats ruining this once free country i live in. Funny how much better life was here many years ago when smoking was allowed everywhere and the phrase "politically correct" was not yet coined because it didn't exist. Sometimes you just have to realize nothing is perfect and that you have to take the bad with the good because to try and make it all good you destroy something far more important. Unfortunately the world hasn't yet realized that and probably won't until we all "live" in plastic bubbles. Sorry..rant over. (but not forgotten)

Dazco you are my hero. I agree with everything you have just posted. Whenever I attend any type of social function now-a-days I have noticed that there is no longer any cohesion. The function is always split between the non-smokers inside and the smokers outside. The laws are making it really hard (especially in winter) for people to sit down in groups and have meaningfull conversations. It is especially difficult in restaurants where friends normally sit over a cup of coffee at the end of the meal, or a bear or three and talk for hours. The new laws have taken the sociability out of social.

I just got tired of smelling like smoke and coughing all the time. Definitely a health issue. I quit smoking 30 years ago. Only recently, however, did I quit chewing tobacco. I had chewed since I was about 10. I quit on March 27 of this year. Still got all my pearly whites.

Thats great Fuzzy. Thats what I hate the most - my yellow stained teeth. Hubby's "morning" cough has gone already after only 11 days. Must admit that is quite impressive. I still won't stop though - someones got to keep the tobacco growers in business and times must be tough for them. :y115:

Chewin' backy??

In the more 'rural' areas of the Emerald Isle we can get snuff over the counter! Still sold elsewhere on the planet??

Here you can get it ANYWHERE. Theres not a liquer store, 711, rite aid or anything thats likely to carry grog and smokes thst doesn't have Skoal. I did that for years too, mainly to keep from smoking as much. But for me at least that stuff seemed more toxic then cigs. They both did bad things to me, but the chew gave me these attacks that i'd have when i would be 5 minutes into sleep at nite. I would wake with my heart beating so hard it felt like it would come out of my chest and my veins felt like they would burst. i felt like one of those episodes was gonna kill me, and i knew it was the chew so i quit. The day i quit i never had another one of those episodes, and they were almost a nightly thing. At least a couple nites a week minimum. So whatever it does, that crap can do a lot more than just rot your teeth or give you mouth cancer.

Absolutely. In the US, there are three kinds of smokeless tobacco. I was always partial to the leaf tobacco ("Red Man" "Harlan County Twist", et al.) which comes in a pouch or a twist. There is also a coarsely ground smokeless ("Copenhagen", "Skoal", et al.) that has quite a kick. Lastly, and not so common anymore is the real snuff ("Peach", "Tube Rose", et al.) that is powdery and dusty and will loop ya if ya ain't careful. All are available OTC to 18 years and up.

Congratulations to Hubby. I have a friend who quit a little over a year ago after 42 years. It can be done.

To someone who does not smoke, kissing someone who does is like licking a dirty ashtray. Think of how poor Hubby is suffering.

The chew helped me kick the smokes. I used nicotine gum and losenges for about a week to kick the chew, but them things are expensive. I finally just quit it all, even the Cubans and Dominicans. No weight gain so far, but I could eat a pack of Red Man about now.

Tough - I've been smoking since I was 12 and I'm not about to stop now. I will brush my teeth for nooky time.

First time I heard the nooky word was bob eubanks on the newlywed game ha ha.
I smoked 26 years, tried quitting 100 times at least, used chew and it gave me the hiccups everytime. Tried light cigs thinking they would help ween me off..right..cigars, not. Then came the gum nicarette, more hiccups and heartburn. Finally the patch, my employer wanting to get everybody to quit for productivity reasons probably, would reimburse us for the patch or whatever program you choose at the rate of 80%. They wouldn't pay for all the supplemental candy though. I gained about 10 lbs, lost some but over the next 11 years I am 20 lbs heavier but that could be my age, 51. Now the smell grates me the wrong way, going into bars and bowling alleys give me headaches and renders me hoarse sometimes. I quit because of what I saw it do to my elders and what they claim it would do to me. also the price with the new sin taxes were going to hit $3.00 per pack and I figured I would be rich not smoking those 2 packs a day.

Ooops

I stopped in 1994 and started again in 1996 when my brother passed away.I also gained 10 kg.At the moment i have been without a smoke for 5 weeks and plan on staying stopped (i was given a warning).I have not gained any weight but then i am doing some excercise.Only thing that sometimes gets to me is the habit smoke.

Great stuff and congratulations Wayne.

Hubby still going strong - 18 days already. He has had a few grumps, but nothing too serious. He also battles a bit, especially after eating, and oh boy can he eat. The funny thing is that with all the eating he hasn't put on weight. :y115:
