Be sure to have a real Amish style dinner in the Lancaster area. There are some really cool towns there to check out......Intercourse, Ephrata, Denver, and Bird-in-Hand, PA. Just remember that it's actually against their religion to take photos of the Amish people although many tourists do it, it's rude.

Reading, PA has a whole downtown of factory outlets too.

Yep.....you sit at huge rectangular tables with lots of other people and they just bring plates and bowls of food to pass around.

Not sure if you'd like eating "scrapple" (aka: pon haus), but that and hot German potato salad and Sauerbraten are my favorites!

I eat scrapple and had all of my kids try it when when we were in that area. I taught all of my kids to try local/indigenous foods; and they do so as adults.

I LOVE scrapple!! Many people are turned off by it though.

Two other things you can only really get in PA (it's just not the same, nor nearly as good in other places)........Amish hot pretzels and a real Philly Cheesesteak.

EDIT: I forgot that you MUST have spaetzle (Spätzle) with your Sauerbraten too!

I ate spaetzle when I was in Germany and I agree with you, it goes well with Sauerbraten.
