A s if the corona virus wasn't enough my wife and i just had a number of tornadoes pass over our house and touched down a number miles East of us, some of the our county did get damage. 4 counties and a number of towns have recievxcz*

Sorry folks lost power, anyway 4 counties and a number of towns, houses, and property have been destroyed don't know if anybody has been killed or hurt yet. Its this time of year that we have this type of weather come through. Just heard in some towns that people are trapped in their houses, and 3 more counties have been added to the list of counties in danger. It appears that when the first tornado tracked through that another a few minutes later followed almost the same path doing about the same damage. The news media is also reporting 100 mph straight line winds are in play in areas around and in the tornadoes path, don't how many tornadoes there are but have just learned that my area is in the clear but the wind is still blowing real hard. The news have just reported the storms are beginning to lose structure near the Alabama line, but further South there is another tornado watch that has been put into effect and is tracking into some other counties, rotation has just been picked up so here we go again. Should last for 2 more hours in various places. Just heard reported on the news that there has been 1 death and a number of people hurt. Will find out more about all of this later tonight.

As we've commented several times, the weather we have here will be headed your way. The first showers of the storm that hit y'all and Louisiana began about 20 miles south of us yesterday afternoon and were growing throughout the night as it was moving east & north-northeast.

I am glad you are okay and had no damage. I have been watching that weather on the news. We will get the tail end of it tomorrow.

When I heard about the storms down your way, the first thing I thought was, "As if the virus situation wasn't bad enough and straining the health care system, some states may have to contend with storm damage and more casualties and deaths." FACE

Stay safe down there TUP

Tornadoes came through the state again yesterday blowing out everyone's elect. and destroying acres of trees but this time no one was hurt. Last week's tornado was supposed to set a record of being the widest tornado on record at 2 miles wide. Now we are waiting around for the next one.

@Rocky

Here in Florida, our soils are mostly fine sand and well drained until you hit the ground water table. I live on a "hill". In Florida, a hill is defined as anywhere water does not stand when it rains. The water table is about 4 to 5 feet down. At the bottom of the hill the water table is 8 to 12 inches down. Close to the lake the water table is 2 to 4 inches down.

To answer your question, construction worker dig a shallow trench and level it. They then pour concrete to make the footers/foundations. The ground is stable even though it may be wet. In some cases piers are constructed and the house is built on those piers. Mu house is a combination of footers and and piers. It was built in 1947.
