Since it was released, I have been "wanting" the new Speed Triple R. Just because it is there - with it's Ohlins suspension, carbon fibre trim etc.

This would mean having to sell / trade in both my current road going Triumphs - the R3 and the Street Triple R, and having no $$$ left after the deal.

Yesterday at a local race track I mentioned this desire to a riding comrade who I have known (not well) since I got back into biking 6 years ago.
We were standing next to my R3 which had next weekend's race tyres tied on to the pillion / sissy bar. - I had collected them from a supplier at the track.

I was explaining my desire to him. He said "What for? You have the R3 for pillion, touring and agricultural work (like collecting tyres etc), and the St3R for fun"

I stand there..... thinking...... for a short time.... and realise he is 100% correct.

The Rocket has done about 35000km (20k miles) and the St3R less than 10000km. Both are in perfect condition.

Although I WANT a new bike, I do not need a new bike, and am the lucky owner of (imo) the two most fun Triumphs one can own.

So, thank you Noel for your candid advice, which I am going to heed - for now.

Hi Simon, I have olso been thinking of getting a Speed Tripple on the one side but I have olso been thinking of getting an Explorer. My Sprint ST got 48000 Ks on it and Eline's Street Triple got 23000 Ks on it. Both is giving me good service and a lot of enjoyment. The Street Triple is a fantastic little bike for one up but not really for long and far pillion trips. I agree with you to keep both for the mean time and enjoy it.

This country is full (or is it fool) of people who have many many things they "needed" ----and 90% of the time the "need" was only want.
Good on ya Silli for resisting.
I have been economically downsized from multiple bikes to "A" bike. (& don't see it changing soon) however I am very happy with my Tiger it does everything I NEED a bike to do when I need it to do it. That doesn't stop me from cruising craigslist or ebay and sometimes finding a bike I really "NEED" as a stable mate......but I don't.
I agree you made the wise decision.
