Since it was released, I have been "wanting" the new Speed Triple R. Just because it is there - with it's Ohlins suspension, carbon fibre trim etc.
This would mean having to sell / trade in both my current road going Triumphs - the R3 and the Street Triple R, and having no $$$ left after the deal.
Yesterday at a local race track I mentioned this desire to a riding comrade who I have known (not well) since I got back into biking 6 years ago.
We were standing next to my R3 which had next weekend's race tyres tied on to the pillion / sissy bar. - I had collected them from a supplier at the track.
I was explaining my desire to him. He said "What for? You have the R3 for pillion, touring and agricultural work (like collecting tyres etc), and the St3R for fun"
I stand there..... thinking...... for a short time.... and realise he is 100% correct.
The Rocket has done about 35000km (20k miles) and the St3R less than 10000km. Both are in perfect condition.
Although I WANT a new bike, I do not need a new bike, and am the lucky owner of (imo) the two most fun Triumphs one can own.
So, thank you Noel for your candid advice, which I am going to heed - for now.
