Friday, I rode over to the Daytona area and spent some time at a vintage bike swap meet. I picked up a couple of parts I have been looking for. On Saturday, my GF and I rode over to Daytona itself. We visited The Helmet Shop (she was looking for boots) and we visited the BMW Triumph Ducati dealership. The Triumph demo truck had set up there rather than at the track as in the past. Unfortunately, they were not giving any demo rides due to the heavy traffic in downtown.

I got to see and sit on the new Explorer. It does not feel as heavy as my XC; the center of gravity seems to be lower. It is well balanced and comfortable. I really want to test ride one because of the shaft drive.

They had two of the Steve McQueen Edition Bonnies. One, numbered 2, will be given away in a drawing. We both entered the drawing. The entire production of the Steve McQueen Bonnies has been sold. I also looked at and sat on the Speed Triple R; what a great bike. I also want to test ride it - preferably on the Speedway! :y2:

We left the dealership once the rain let up and went to the Speedway. We spent most of the time there staying out of the rain. But we did visit a lot vendors and Mable bought some trinkets and of Bike Week. I didn't take any more photos because I didn't want the camera to get wet.

We grabbed a bite to eat and set out for home about dark in between rain showers. We did put our rain liners in our jackets. About four miles from the track we ran into a torrential downpour. The XC handled the we just fine. We had about six or eight miles of rain and we were out of it. The roads were dry the rest of the way home. I ws really glad I have the fog lights on the XC. They increase visibility and increase my visibility to other drivers. The rain has its benefits; it washed the Tiger and it got all of the V-twin posers off of the road! :y2: We were dry by the time we got home. Fortunately, it was not cold, only wet.

I am going back to Daytona on Wednesday with a riding friend. The weather has cleared and is perfect.

Wow, from the photos I was thinking it would feel like a big lump.
How far from your place to Daytona? Looks like you are clocking the miles up.
Mate, best of luck in the draw, how good would it be to score the #2 McQueen Edition.

It would be awesome to win that bike! But I'm not holding my breath. :y2:

I am about 55 miles from the Speedway. It is a nice ride over there. I can choose freeway or back roads; I usually opt for the back roads.

Thanks, Harry.

Kerry, please call and we can meet up.

AJ, unfortunately they are not giving an Explorer away! :y2:

Dave, an Explorer is most definitely not in my budget! BGRIN

Tony, you would be most welcome to ride it.

Adrian, you ought to come over for Biketoberfest. I know there is no way you can get away for Bike Week.

Yes, it is nice to live so close to Daytona, but far enough away to not be engulfed by the mess! Thanks for the well wishes. I hope I win it, too.
Well, I can tell you this, if I enter, your chances will improve. I've never won ANYTHING in any kind of raffle in my entire life. When I enter, everyone else's probability improves!

Yesterday, I had a good early morning ride to Moss Bluff for breakfast at the Dam Diner. The Dam Diner is located at the locks and dam on the Oklawaha River. Food is very good, sountry cooking, and the portions were generous. It was a 62 mile ride for me. I met a friend and after breakfast we rode to Deland and Volusia County Fairgrounds.

The annual Vintage Bike Auction and all of the vendors are at the fairgrounds this year instead of the usually location at Stetson University. They have some really fine bikes to auction tomorrow. Here are some random photos. I apologize for the quality; I was using my cell phone camera for the first time.

Among other things, they were holding a trike and sidecar show and judging. Here is the most interesting trike of the bunch.

1960 Yamaha. The model was not given; but it looks like an early YD series bike. I owned a YDS3

First time I have seen one of these at auction.
