There’s a Japanese town that looks just like Sweden, sells Swedish folk crafts, and celebrates Swedish traditions. Sweden Hills, located on Hokkaido island, hosts Swedish festivals throughout the year and is popular with tourists.

Lay your arm on a flat surface and push your thumb and pinky together. If you don’t see a raised band across your wrist, you are a product of evolution. If you do, you’ve got a useless extra muscle in your arm that is slowly being erased from our genetic code. (Source)

The town of Nördlingen, Germany, was built inside an old crater from a meteor that once crashed into the countryside. Residents have incorporated parts of the meteor into their town, including the church – which is encrusted with meteorites and microscopic diamonds. (Source, Source 2, Source 3)

Old-timey ‘high-wheeler’ bicycles were also known as ‘penny farthings’, because people thought they looked like the largest (penny) and smallest (farthing) coins of the day rolling after each other. The reason one wheel was oversized was that they had no gears or chains, and the only way to make them go faster was by having...

Thomas Jefferson was afraid of public speaking. He had terrible stage fright, added accent marks to his copy of the Declaration of Independence in case he ever had to read it aloud, and often faked illness to avoid giving speeches. He was so opposed to public attention that about 20 pages into his own autobiography,...

When Kevin Bacon goes to a wedding reception, he bribes the DJ so they won’t play Footloose.

“I go to the disc jockey and hand him $20 and say, ‘Please don’t play that song’, because, first off, a wedding is really not about me. It’s about the bride and groom. And… it’s embarrassing. ”

If you want to know whether a diamond is real, breathe on it.

Diamonds are very efficient heat conductors, so the fog from your breath will disappear almost immediately if it is real.

If the fog sticks around a few seconds before clearing up, the rock is probably a fake.

In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt was shot just before giving a speech.

He began with: “Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose. Fortunately I had my manuscript – I was going to make a long speech – and there is where the bullet went through, and it probably saved me from it going into my heart. The bullet is in me now, so that I cannot make a very long speech, but I will try my best…” then kept talking for 1.5 hours before finally agreeing to seek medical attention.

It’s so hard to understand the words to The Kingsmen’s famous rendition of “Louie Louie” that kids used to make up their own versions of the lyrics and pass them around in notes.

There were so many suspicious parents reporting it for being obscene that the FBI began an investigation. They spent over 2.5 years playing the song backwards, forwards, and and every which way they could think of, but they eventually gave up after determining the words were “indecipherable at any speed.”
