It's hard to believe that something like that could happen. The history of the world could have changed.

I watched a TV series on D-Day (cannot remember now what it was called) and I really enjoyed the history behind it all.

My Dad and my Uncle were there and both survived the whole war....They did get into a bit of trouble and I would hear the stories more and more often at holidays throughout my life.

Agree, he should have known better. At age 25 he should have been mature enough to make that decision - especially since he was considered mature enough to be in that position in the first place.
Oh well, it's a great story and turned out for the best - but it gave me chills to think what would have happened if all the enemy forces were in place and had rained down on the approaching fleet or while they were still in port.
