My Ride
2023 Scrambler 900
Riding Since
1972
I picked up my 23 Scrambler 900 late last summer, I love the bike, but can't take more than half hour or so on that stock seat. I've had several Russell Day Long seats on other bikes, they're 150 miles south of me and do terrific work, my wife loves them. I didn't want that big a seat on this bike, so after lots of research, I decided on a Bill Mayer seat, now Legendary Best Motorcycle seats out of Ventura Ca. Bill retired, one of his long time employees has taken over the company. Adrian is very easy to work with and will talk with you about what you like, want and need in a seat rebuild. It helped they were running a 20 % holiday discount on their seats. I sent him pictures of me on the bike, along with the stock seat. I'm not using the pillion at all on this bike, so it was a single seat build. He turned it around in 2 days, and although we've had cold wet weather since I've had it back, I've been on it enough to know it was money well spent. I've added a 28 L top box and the Triumph Rugged Pannier for storage, that along with a dry bag behind me where the pillion used to be will give me enough storage to take an extended trip on this in summer rather than my other bike set up for touring. Comfort seats are a compromise, looks, size, and comfort. This is smaller than the RDL on my DL1000, but big enough to be "hundreds of miles" comfortable. Just what I was looking for.

How do you find the Scrambler on long trips - wind wise? Does the screen do the trick to keep the wind off your chest at highway speed? I really like the 900 and am leaning toward it for my next bike but I put on some long highway miles to meet up with friends and get to destinations. The seat looks really comfy. Looks like you can spend all day on it for sure.

I put the fly screen on it for day trips, and it does make a difference for that, moving the wind up from my chest to the top of my helmet. IF I ride this from Oregon to New Mexico this summer I'll be adding a larger windscreen.
This is 14" W X 16" Tall, something taller and wider for wind and if I run into rain.

My 1200XC Scrambler also had an atrocious seat - my arse is pretty impervious after 54 years of riding, but that seat was intolerable: had to get off after about 130 km... I got it reupholstered too, but in the end the bike wasn't suitable for what we were trying to do and I sold it. In retrospect I think a 900 Scrambler would have been better (bit lower and less confusing tech). Anyway, I got a 24 Bonnie T120 instead which has been excellent so far. What is it with Triumphs and their horrible seats...? Have heard many complaints along these lines recently... cheers Pat

I've been riding a long time too and a custom seat is usually one of the first things I look for. If I'm uncomfortable on an all day ride or extended trip all the extra noise from an aftermarket exhaust, shiny chrome bits or LED lighting is not going to make me want to ride further or again the next day. I want to be comfortable enough to ride all day, day after day pain free. Off the shelf seats help, but Russell Day Long or other custom seats are the best and if I keep the bike for years and lots of miles, worth every dollar.
