Cost Of Modern Cars

I had a warning light come up on my instrument panel of my Ford so I took it into the dealer. They found that the instrument panel controller was faulty and had to be replaced and this part costs 20,200 ZAR =1,733.15USD

Lucky for me the car is still under warranty so my bill was zero

How do the manufacturers come up with these prices, its probably an item produced in China for a few dollars.

Gadzooks! That's expensive. They just happened to have one in stock too. Guessing they know it's a problem and keep them in stock. Doesn't bode well for long term reliability, does it?

You will find that all manufacturers have dealer only parts that they know wear out quite quickly and keep them in house so they can charge a premium price , then some one in china will get hold of one and make it for penny's .

A 25 year old anything would be a pile of rust up here. If you drive it in the winter that is. Salt is EVIL!

I am lucky not to have that problem here, i have seen some of those rust buckets.
